Touring Cars - where are they now?
A different take on the other touring car threads from the 60's/70's.
Where are the cars from the early SuperTouring class? I mean the Pug 405's up to 1995, the Radasich/Rouse '94 Mondeos (and Mansell's bent one), the Toyota Carina's, even the Renault 19's. Basically, anything from 1991 to 1995. Anyone know? Last edited by Hobson; 3 Nov 2004 at 10:06. |

I know the later stuff (such as the winged Mondeos and Accords) are there, I just wondered where the earier stuff is hiding.

Brian Chatfield had one of the Toyota Carina super tourers. It's probably still in one of his sheds.

The ex-Mansell TOCA Shootout car was written off and crushed into a cube. I seem to remember reading it then formed the base of a glass-topped coffee table which lived in reception at Ford's UK headquarters.

Alvin Powell was running an early Mondeo with additional wing in FSaloons and WRDA events a couple of years ago.
Barry Barnes runs a Carina at Lydden Hill which I think may be a former Super Tourer. A lot of the early 90's cars like the 850 Estate headed to Australia when they had been finished with. There was a picture of Will Hoys '91 BMW M3 in Autosport recently being demo'd at the last BTCC race. Last edited by stuart05; 5 Nov 2004 at 13:57. |

A lot of them are in Australia, mostly the Peugeots and can be seen here. http://www.ecn.net.au/~amib/st/st.htm

I was at Donington last weekend for the Britcar race, as part of the support package there was an open saloon/sportscar race. Any on the grid was a super touring Audi A4.
I also think that Audi UK has an A4 as they had Frank Biela Championship winning A4 was on display at Silverstone during the LMES meeting back in August. |

Gregg Hansford was killed at Phillip Island in 1995 in an Rouse built Mondeo that Ross Palmer owned. The car was t-boned and was destoyed.
Ross Palmer imported two identical cars that were lightish blue in colour. I can't remember the history of the cars though. Jeff Allam drove the other one for a while in the Australian Super Tourer Series. The 2nd car would still be racing today in Australia. |

I'm sure they were rebodied into the series 2 bodyshell in 1998/99 and ran towards the end of the ASTC.

The 94 and 95 Ray Mallock Caveliers are in a collection in the North West of England. One of them raced in a Britcar race at Croft at the end of 2002.

Quite a few are now raced in Europe. Quite popular with the Germans and the Dutch. I suppose Britcar is now the place to race them next year, spread the word and lets see them in use, together!

Maybe the longer Britcar races are too long for some of the touring cars. They were designed for sprint races. A lot of the parts are life'ed.
