Who's sponsoring Andretti?
...other than Honda, of course...
I've just heard rumour that Motorola has told the team that they are not following them into the IRL. Apparently it's being reported on AR1. When originally announcing the switch, Andretti cited that he was doing "what the sponsors wanted." Well, KOOL's not going with him either, so what gives? I think Archipelago, Klein Tools and 7-Eleven are still on board. I don't know about Motorola.

interesting isnt it , if he was doing what the sponsors wanted then why isnt the big sponsor motorola following him and does this mean they are staying in CART or shelving their motorsport sponsorship alltogether.
time will tell who andretti's sponsor is and what motorola are doing i guess |

Honda has a huge steak in the Mikey Andretti IRL effort. Motorola will be taking a step down in sponsorship (company is hurtin') and will probably be more like what the 500 where Archipelago was a bigger sponsor. Archipelago likes Mike and the 500. I think you'll see 7/11 as an associate on all the Andretti cars (i dont know if thats for sure as 2 or 3) although its odd because the 7/11 was a b2b deal constructed by Kool. Perhaps Mikey found some new sponsorship too. Speculating that Honda has around $20mil invested into that team. ($8M for Mikey which is what he gets now, and $4mil each for Tony and Dario, then $4mil into the team for IRL startup).

Was Motorola ever part of the deal? It was rumoured months ago that they were pulling out.
The huge stake that Honda has doesn't necessarily have to be monetary, they could just concentrate all the technical development more on his team. There would definatly be some money in there as well though |

Obviously Honda's putting big money into Andretti's team so why not larger Honda badging? MOT is remaining in CART, albeit at a reduced level. I doubt Michael will have any trouble getting the rest of the sponsorship.

Rumour has it that Andretti hasn't got the funding complete at all.
Kanaan is out of the picture, Dario is regretting his decision and looking to axe his deal, Mikey is only driving at Indy leaving Weldon as the only fulltime AGR ride in '03 with Mikey joining him only at Indy and a couple of other races. Interesting Indeed. |

I think Andretti will still have two cars full time in the IRL and maybe three at Indy. Honda needs teams to compete against toyota and they have put too much money in the operation for it not to happen.
I think it is interesting that Pook has thrown down the gauntlet in respects to Indy. No more cherry picking by CART drivers if they are racing in Europe during the month of May. Some car owners like Mr.Rahal and Haas might have to choose between CART and the IRL. Even though Carl Haas signed Alex Tagliani that doesn't mean he will place his driver in CART. |

Has anyone considered that Kool and Motorola told Michael that they wouldn't be around next year and the new sponsers only wanted to be in the IRL? |

Rahal had Vasser in the 500 last year. I don't think Haas has fielded a car at Indy since the split in 1995. If Toyota is giving away engines and cash Hass will probably run the 500 this year. If he has problems securing sponsorship in CART maybe he will leave CART and run full time to the IRL. Hopefully Toyota and Honda will lean on these guys to shut down their CART operations and get rid of this annoying competition.

We Ain't discussing economic philosophy baby. Competition is pivitol to many aspects of a functioning economy to protect the consumer from predatory corporations. Auto racing is entertainment, not telephone service. CART demise just puts some F1 Wannabes out of work.

Just read a release on AR1 from AGR, formally announcing Wheldon's signing as a test driver. It says that funding is in place for Andretti, Kanaan and Franchitti and the team is looking for funding to field Wheldon as a fourth driver in some events.
