Alx D in FRV6!

Last night Alx Danielsson from Sweden presented his 2004 campaign: the talented Swede is joining all-Swedish team SRTS for a full season of Formula Renault V6.

(Finally) graduating from F Ford Zetec to a higher category, Alx considers 2004 a learning year in the new class. SRTS is run by former Le Mans-winner Stanley Dickens. Main sponsors are Metro and XQ´s.

Finally some good news then about Alx!

check out www.alxtof1.com for more info and pics (of a very beautifully painted and stickered car!).

if he is entering FRv6, he would be better off doing it with a competitive team, theese guys take around an afternoon to prepare the car, top teams like CRAM Competition can take up to a week, which just shows the difference in dedication between the two teams, all the best to alx nonetheless.

Couldnt agree any more. SRTS tries to keep a high profile but they are not that professional. I also think Alx would have been better of in a more established team. Dont know who is the race engineer at the moment, but they had a good one who apparently has returned to his University to finsh a Doctors degree.

But, in the end, money matters and if he would have had the money, well, then he would have been in F3 with Carlin or something last year... I think all he could get was SRTS, and once again it will be up to Alx to prove his worth as a driver in a not-on-the-top team. Still: Good luck, Alx!

Yes Demarco, that seems to be the case for many young talented drivers. Budget (money) matters if you want in on the top team's cake...look at other young talent like Joey Foster etc. I thought Alx would have been with DAMS since he really impressed in his outing before Christmas.

This seems to be the "big break" Alx has been waiting for and I truly believe he has the ability to be a frontrunner in FR V6 if SRTS can handle it.
Interesting to see how much difference an driver can make in a average team...guess we will find out soon!

GOOD LUCK!

Has anyone seen an entry list to FR V6?

Heard from a pretty reliable source that he wasnt going to do FRV6.
Mind you with the progress he made with the tests he did in Europe why would you want too.

I dont think Alex will let the team get away with not prepping the car properly! I know he can push a team hard to try to get them to do the job well and his expectaions are high but who can blame him when at the end of the day every year could be the last in racing!

I'll be keeping a close eye on Alx this year. I think it could be an interesting year.

I'd be interested in hearing what peoples thoughts of Renault V6 are.

eg: how does it compare to other Formulas such as Nissan world series is close to F3000 is Renault V6 closer to F3 or F3000 ?

I was under the impression the speeds /setup / car type was closer to F3000.

Well, FRV6 is closer to F3000 in the aspect that everybody has the same equipment, but in terms of performance it is closer to F3, I would say.

FRV6 is quite technically advanced, but I think in terms of data logging and computer control, F3 is better, although FRV6 has a more advanced gearbox with F1 style shifter paddles and a display in the steering wheel.

From a status point of view, well, then F3 is the king.

By the way, noted that (surprise, surprise) the SRTS website has not yet been updated... good luck, Alx... looks like you are going to need it!!

Good for the championship that Lopez (Renault V6 champion 2003) was the fastest Jerez F3000 test today!

Neil Jani - Title favorite this year?

Neel JANI joins DAMS for the 2004 Eurocup Formula Renault V6
Le Mans, 17 February 2004

After 4 wins and a 2nd place in the final standings of 2003 behind DAMS driver Jose-Maria LOPEZ, Neel JANI joins DAMS Team for this coming season with high ambitions.

Jean-Paul DRIOT, CEO of DAMS : “Fighting with JANI for the win of the FRV6 Championship last year gave us the opportunity to discover Neel’s professional and personal qualities. Then we are very happy to have finalised an agreement for 2004 because the combination DAMS-JANI has to be the one for the Championship win. We have a common goal, win this title which will open wider the doors of Formula 1 for him and the doors of Formula GP2 for us.”

Eric BOULLIER, Managing and Technical Director : “This is a great satisfaction to welcome Neel JANI in the Team. He was our main competitor last year and finished only 4 points behind LOPEZ. We know that we will be expected by every one as the main contenders for the final win but this means that we will have to work very hard to give the best car to him as we do for our 3 drivers. I know that many other very good drivers will come in the Championship and the competition should be tough for everybody.”

Neel JANI will Join Memo ROJAS in the Team for his first test with DAMS at Magny Cours on 22 and 23 February.

Looks like single seaters are a thing of the past for Cressey, have just read he will be doing Carrera Cup with VIP Petfoods. Theres going to be a few Kiwis doing it by the looks of things could be a good championship this year.

Is thier a big difference in budget between FRV6 and Euro F3 top teams, which is more expensive? Does any one know the entry list for FRV6 this year?

Only 11 cars were at V6 testing at Paul Ricard, including Jamie Melo who was testing for Victory.

I hope more than that show up for round 1

On day 1 of FR2000 testing, Scott Speed was about half a second quicker than the rest, but they didnt give full times. Still waiting on overall results

Russfeld, do you have a list over the FRV6 drivers that tested at PR? I don’t think all teams have received their upgrade kits yet.

A decent FRV6 budget is in the region of 400-600' EUROS.

I know that Alx will do a 2-day test next week at PR and 2 days at Valencia the week after that.
