Charity suggestion please.
Can some of you tell me please two things?...If I can swing the permission from the track and meeting organizers for some car clubs, who may have something to celebrate, to have a LUNCHTIME (2 lap) track parade at the odd meeting 1/ would it be extra work for the marshalls to keep an eye on proceedings so much that it would be a nuisance to valuable down-time and, 2/ If it isn't a great problem and a charge per car was made which charity would marshalls like to see monies raised going to?

It's something that has to be agreed by the MSA first.

how about the air ambulance? This service has saved countless lives and I am personally pretty annoyed that this has to rely on charity.

If the MSA agreed then try to keep the money raised in motorsport.Something like Brooklands would be my suggestion.

Yeah, another one for the Air ambulance here, they do an amazing job.
What about doing it during Action days, at come they have sessions of about 3 laps for people just to drive round, at the mini world day there was well over a hundred in the pits! |

another in favour of Air Ambulance, I unfortunately had an incident last year that required the air ambulance to transport the casualty and they are most deserving of any support.

Just a thought, but if you are expecting the marshals to give up their lunch break, wouldn't it be a nice gesture to donate the money raised to them?

Without wishing to be negative, unless well organised these things are a nightmare for the organisers. I'd talk to a few organising clubs before you start allocating the proceeds. Many "big" meetings have their own promoted activities in any lunch gap anyway.

If it was just a parade would you need marshals?
And what would happen if time runs out? |

Depends if it's just parade laps - I think that's OK without marshals, they should be signed on by the circuit though and the danger is that you put punters on a race track, tell them parade laps and they drive like nobs anyway.
Been there, done that, got the t-shirt...... |

I thought Sheila M had a point that maybe a marshalls charity might be involved - if the Marshalls are involved in the parade too - but I don't think it's likely you will be needed except a watching brief as piglet and Dave Brand intimate. There are one or two clubs that would like to do these and their membership runs into thousands so it could be profitable either for a very good cause like air ambulance etc.
IF the powers that be pass it would it be a nuisance to you marshalls that another bunch of cars (albeit with pace car and rules of road) are disturbing your lunchtime? |

Contact the BRSCC about using Rockingham, they always have a parade or two around the Oval during the lunch break and it doesn't have any impact on marshals, only the use of one course car. Collections for charity are to a "captive" audience as all the spectators are in the grandstand area.

The circuit management was less than happy about the speeds involved.... (I think it was a BARC clubby rather than a SCSA meeting) You really need to talk to the clubs there are lots of things to take into account and whilst it doesn't involve track marshals it will almost certainly involve, pit, paddock, assembly type bods as well as circuit/organising staff to sign the punters on. If you're talking about a lot of cars there needs to be enough paddock/assembly space to get cars on and off and people to make sure only the right cards go in to the area and that they all clear out of the Paddock area afterwards. |

Yes there is an infamous story of a parade at silverstone where they put all the cars on...they were supposed to do 3 laps and then come off...except they hadn't worked out where they are going to get them off...I think they did about 10 laps in the end!
I'm not a fan of parades from the paperwork side of things...do you know how difficult it is to pin down Mr Symes to get permission?! |

I know he's a busy man but never had any problems - presume you have his direct contact details but if you don't drop a PM and will help where possible.
