Thank You Very Much Mr. Howard
I'd just like to thank Mr. Howard for ruining my planned trip to Bathurst this year.
Having to vote prior to leaving for Bathurst is extremely annoying as well as putting me a good 3 hours behind schedule. Again proof that the government does not care about motorsport. |

******** - you can go in to your local electoral office and vote anytime you like once ballot papers have been printed and distributed. Takes less time than turning up on polling day.
Won't delay you at all - but I sense that no matter when he called an election you would have complained. Sheesh - some people want to complain about anything these days. |

Is there a law that says you have to vote?
I think our only requirements are that we must be enrolled over here. |

i spose u could put this under bizarre motorsport happenings, but did anyone see our friends from silverstone attack the leader of the mens marathon at the olympics.
lock him up and throw away the key, the second coming of christ indeed. |

you can file an absentee vote whilst in bathurst on the saturday no matter where you are from. just go to any of the polling booths and ask for the absentee vote forms (or out of area voting forms as they probably know them better by) and fill them in. i've done this 3 or 4 times already. we have to be nice to mr howard, didnt they help us rebuild mt panorama??

You don't even have to lodge an absentee vote - can be done in your local area for about 7-14 days before the election.
Absentee votes get counted last whereas going into the local office you are lodging a normal vote which is counted on the night. I have an aversion to lodging a 'secret' vote which is placed in an envelope with all of your details on the envelope! |

Well I suppose they couldn't have the election on footy final weekend...
I always seem to put in an early vote because there is always a race meeting somewhere that is better attending than lining up down at the church hall. |

Precised, the law says that you have to attend the booth to have your name marked off on the electroral roll. They issue you with a ballot paper which happens to be an accountable document and you need to place the ballot paper in the correct ballot box. But they cannot make you vote or mark that ballot paper.

Worried - no I wouldn't have complained if he had of picked the 16th or later.
My argument is that he was so careful to avoid campaigning during olympics, not to go the booths during the football finals, but it is ok to go to the booths during australian motorsports biggest weekend. |

If they still had the race on the long weekend it wouldn't be a problem.

Ah, Mr. Howard, you have done it again. You have alienated a majority of important voters - TSK, TSK

The elections on the Saturday, not Sunday. At least it won't interfere with any coverage, other than every second news update on 10 being about the Election result...
No election has ever been decided on the want of the motorsport following fraternity - including those in Canberra who believed that the party that wanted the dragway got in on the back of the DragWay vote... |

And if you chose not to vote you are actually saying that despite the law requiring your vote to be recieved you have nothing to add to the debate and are happy to go with the flow !!!!

At least by having an election that weekend you won't be bothered by politicians at the race.

Stupid move they would have been better to put it on the footy weekend at least thats only a state wide event not a national one & last time I checked Bathurst went for longer then 90 minutes that a footy game takes too.

The election is on Saturday.
The race is on Sunday. What is the problem? I have voted at Bathurst on a race weekend before. |
