Getting Disillusioned
There seem an awful lot of posts here that are negative and I for one have no disagreement with most of them having spent 16+ yrs "on-the-bank" and having been treated as something you would scrape off the soul of your boots!!
So, what are we all looking for....?????????? Respect? Appreciation? Gratitude? Free Something? (apart from entry) So where do we find this Utopia??? The best I can offer you is as follows................ Free Tea and Coffee at sign-on.. Free Lunch (some venues)........ Free Beer (some venues)....... Free Accomodation (with hot/cold water, fridge, microwave,tv,gas, electric etc) Secure Marshals Area...... Drivers buying/bringing beer........ Respect from Clerk of Course....... Respect from Club Officials........ Respect from Drivers............... What I can't offer you is overtaking!!! But then Bernie can't offer you that either!!!!!! What I will say is that you will feel involved, feel a part of what is happening, be appreciated and listened to if you have any ideas or suggestions. Come and try some Hillclimbing next year and get the "Buzz" back !!! |

Can you tell me where my nearest hillclimb courses are? I'm from the Hertfordshire/north London area.
I'd be quite interested in marshalling some hillclimbs if there are some quite local. Right now I'm registered with the BRSCC South West, and Castle Combe being so far has meant I have only done a handful of events this year (though will register with BRSCC South East next year too as Brands isn't too far), so if there are some hillclimbs within an hour's drive, I'd be more than happy to add some to my calendar for next year. Would I have any trouble being only a trainee marshal? Do you have many examining observers at the hillclimbs? Phill |

Pip - You need to find your way down to Gurston Down Near Salisbury this weekend (not far from Thruxton) You'll be made more than welcome.
Hillclimbs are not the place to get signatures. What you will get is MUCH more experience of handling incidents, shifting cars, dealing with drivers. Being a trainee makes no difference, in fact, many trainees find Hillclimbs an easier place to cut their teeth, make friends and gain experience than circuits. Look on www.gurstondown.org and get in touch with Alan Osgood, the cheif marshal. Get on down there on the 8th (this Sunday). When you get there look me & the missus up (Alistair & Caron) and we'll point you in the right direction. Look forward to seeing you. |

Thanks for the advice and help, but that's just as far as Castle Combe I'm organising the SEATCupra.net stand at Trax (Silverstone) on Sunday, so couldn't make it anyway.
Cheers Phill |
