Tracy to race with the "good ol' boys" in 2004??
Beleive it or not it may not be his decision! Kinda weird....anyways Richard Childress will be on Windtunnel Thursday August 14 maybe he'll give us some hints of his plans for 2004.
http://www.tsn.ca/auto_racing/news_s...50498&hubName= Could Tracy ride in NASCAR next year? Canadian Press 8/13/2003 NASCAR team owner Richard Childress is reportedly interested in hiring CART series leader Paul Tracy of Toronto for next year. "He's a card on the table," Childress told the Winston-Salem Journal recently. The decision may not lie with Tracy, who has six CART victories this year with the Player's-Forsythe team. Player's must pull out of CART racing in October under federal anti-tobacco legislation, but both Tracy and teammate Patrick Carpentier of Joliette, Que., remain under contract to team co-owner Gerry Forsythe through next year. ``It's up to Gerry to decide whether he wants to sell (the contract) or not,'' said Player's team spokesman Francois Cartier. Childress is said to like aggressive, risk-taking drivers like Tracy. He already has drivers Robby Gordon and Kevin Harvick under contract for next year, but is reportedly looking to replace third driver Steve Park. |

He's said that he's looked at Nascar before when he's been frustrated by CART.

It would take him all of 2 and a half laps to adapt to the car. Tracy can really drive anything. Give him an Indy Car, give him a NASCAR, give him a lawn mower ... he'll be quick!

PT's one of the few strong characters still in CART: should he go to Nascar, well, wouldn't be a good chop for CART

"You will never see me driving one of those Crapwagons." Paul Tracy
A sanctimonious anti-tobacco person remarked to me the other day "Well I guess all those race drivers will have to get honest jobs now!" and I replied, "No, they will just go and race for other countries." He was shocked to think that PT would still have a viable racing career once Canada no longer had anything for him. Personally I'd love to see a team with PT and Boris racing together. They might not win many races but they'd be great PR! |

PT's not going to NASCAR. Childress hasn't talked to him in three years.

I think he mentioned that if CART died that's where he would look. He would be hated there though. Not a big enough sothern accent.

As evidence of how "easy" the transition is, I offer up: Scott Pruett (oval record only please), John Andretti, Christian Fittipaldi, Robby Gordon (easily the most talented of the bunch - and the most inconsistent) - all decent open wheelers, none of whom has set the world on fire. Despite PT being the Canadian Hero of the Age, I doubt if anything would happen in 2 and a 1/2 laps other than to have Jesse Jeff Westchester send him a spinnin in one o' them racing deals.

Mulhern says that the next move would have to be a Winston Cup test for Tracy, likely at Las Vegas Motor Speedway.
Tracy told reporters in Lexington on the weekend he would be interested in such a test. http://slam.canoe.ca/Slam/Motorsport...12/159167.html |

I'm not so sure Tracy would be well suited to a less than agile Nascar.

I think Tracy should go to Australia and drive for the Holden Racing Team.

Also, I think PT would be loved by most NASCAR fans. It's not like they don't already know who he is. Most Marlboro smokin' rednecks already have free cigarette PT stuff still in their closet from the Penske years. Plus NASCAR is looking to hit a whole new audience and PT is the ticket. What would be funnier than PT telling Jeff Gordon to Phischizel his Nizil? |

Tracy to leave CART for NASCAR
Paul Tracy admitted in Montreal on Friday that he has a serious offer to race in NASCAR and he's thinking about taking it. "There's an option (to go to NASCAR) if I want it," Tracy said Friday. "I'd like to stay in CART, but we'll have to see. "By the end of September, we'd like to know what's going to happen. They've been talking about it for six months," said Tracy. "I don't have six months to wait and see if there's going to be a series." http://www.seventhgear.com/html/news/rumors.php |

NASCAR just doesn't offer money, it also offers stability, competition and recognition. I wouldn't fault him if he made the move.

Tracy staying put: Forsythe
"CART will not fail," said Forsythe, who is part of a partnership group that has made a bid to buy the series. "So any question of Tracy going anywhere is moot." http://www.canoe.ca/NewsStand/Toront...25/168272.html So much for that rumour. |
