Porsche Cup

For me the Porsche Cup has always been one of the top National championships, and it was great to see its success on the Powertour in 2001. Now for 2002 it is a BTCC Support race - surely it will become a real success story??!! Hopefully there will be more of the Class 2 and Class 3 machines!

Your views.....

I think the series is only for GT3 cup cars. No more Class 2 or 3 I think. They should be allowed in another series, as they are a good stepping stone to the GT3 cup car.

The GT3 cup cars are great fun and will succeded in the support package. At last something other than 4-cylinders (except MG) in the BTTC package.

The Porsches haven't really interested me too much when I've watched then in the past and I only managed to see them once last year. That was at the opening Powertour at Silverstone and they were highly entertaining. I hope they'll prove to be a good support race now they're part of the TOCA package.

I'd sort of assumed that the Porsche's race calendar for 2002 was the same as the BTCCs, however, this press release indicates otherwise. Has anyone got a full calendar?

Selected programme for Chambers

Having won the overall title for three seasons in a row, Peter Chambers is planning a relaxed approach to the 2002 Michelin Porsche Cup. Rather than tackle the full 11-meeting calendar, Chambers has chosen six rounds for his 2002 programme.

"I'm going to take it easy this year and enjoy some racing without the pressure of a full blown championship assault," reckons the Guildford businessman.

The rounds that Chambers has selected represent his favourite venues and are Brands Hatch (twice), Thruxton, Spa-Francorchamps, Castle Combe and Knockhill.

"I'm looking forward to the season and will enjoy being the joker in the pack!" says Chambers.

The action was top class last year,Babs Armstrong was unlucky not to win a race.Pete Chambers,Mr Rise,Mr Slater, made the championship for me, the racing was usually clean,a mixture between gentleman racers and class b of the production boys,a bit of pannel beating but hand shakes after.I for one will be looking forward to this years events.

I remember Kevin Harrison?s HUGE accident going up to Druids at Brands in September, took out a few safety barriers with him too.
