Mingin Probans

Whats the best way of stopping probans from really smelling. I bought a new pair a few weeks ago and they got wet at the weekend and really started mingin. I have washed them in non bio but they really still smell.
Any ideas?

If the Proban are from AWS they do smell when wet. The only thing to do with them is to let them dry out naturally in the fresh air.

I've had three sets from AWS and all smell the same when wet.

I have nothing against AWS a part from the smell when wet and I'll buy by next set overall from them.

It must be the fabric they use, so come on Nick sort this out.

My overalls stink when they're wet...I think its to do with the proban treatment.

Regrettably, this is the problem with Proban when it gets wet - it does tend to smell rather like a very dead decomposed dog. I'm not sure whether it fades with time or whether one simply gets used to it

However, if you really can't stand it - have you tried spraying your ovies with Febreze to see if that makes it any better?

I have a pair from the GP in 98 or was it 99? I can't quite remember. They are starting to smell of something warm and brown that certainly isnt chocolate, I have had to wash them numerous times. And before you ask I wasnt in an exciting place either.

The important thing to remember is that when your ovvies don't smell when wet the Proban has washed out and you have no protection!!Better to smell a bit amongst friends!

You are right Sheila, it is a Proban problem. It fades a little after a while, but I guess we all get used to it.

1. What does a very dead decomposing dog smell like?.......oh don't tell me, Probans

2. I would be wary of spraying any clothing that is supposed to be flameproof with anything at all in case it's flammable (I.E. the aerosol propellant) and defeats the object of wearing Probans. There have been cases of people having used hairspray burning very nicely after accidently being touched with ciggies. Just a thought.

2 things, mine were new last year and they never smell when wet (they were AWS)
and have you tried waterproofs!!!
