The MC12 and the abandoned Supercar regs
This is a subject that has been touched several times around here but never brought any real answers, as late as 3 hours ago paul-collins and fausto brought this up here, so by this I hope we can clarify some things about this car and the regs it was built according to.
When did FIA announce the new Supercar regs and when did they say it would come into place? Would it compleatly replace the current GT1 rules? How many manufacturers where interested in those regs, and why was Maserati the only one to go through with it? Was the MC12 already homoligated and in production before FIA announced the regs would not come to reality? Did FIA allow it to race in GT1 only cause they messed up, or is it really GT1 legal, and what part did ACO have in this? Do anyone have any real answeres to all this? I never really paid attention to the "supercars" blather of Stephane Ratel, to be honest. But you can find stuff on the dailysportscar archive (http://archive.dailysportscar.com) that gives some of the details surrounding the homologation (or not) of the car. In particular, choose the Archived News sections for Le Mans and FIA-GT, starting in late 2003.

So, I've red through the dailysportscar archive, but didnt find anything interesting, only lots of test reports of the car and similar. I've done some searching but theres really nothing to find. So is there anyone that can shed some light on this?

Well, there's no smoke so I'm guessing there is no fire...
