Ford Sierra RS500 Gr.A Register
Cheers,
I'm a big fan of the Ford Sierra RS500 Gr.A for many years. I think it would be a good idea to start buiding a register for these cars before it's too late...... I wonder how many original Gr.A cars still exist today... I think that there wasn't any RS500 Gr.A built directly by Ford Motorsport at Boreham. They were all built by subcontracted specialists like Eggenberger,Rouse Sport, Graham Goode,etc.. I would like to hear your comments on this. Best Regards. NSMG |

Dick Johnson Racing in Australia built a couple of Sierra's, sold a few to Robb Gravett's Trackstar to compete in the BTCC in the late 80s.
DJR were widely regarded to have built the fastest Sierra's in the world. They still have at least one of the cars in their possesion, in their museum |

Gravett had 2 Johnson cars for 1989 (was his all-white car in 90 one of these rebuilt, or an all-new car?). I think one of these later went to Graham Hathaway during the 1990 season?
Believe Graham Goode has one of his original RS500s, as does Andy Rouse (Andy crashed his at the Goodwood Festival of Speeed recently...)- The Museum of British Road Transport in Coventry also had a Rouse/ICS car on display at one time-or is this the same one that Rouse ran at Goodwood? |

From memory, Eggenberger were still active in touring cars in the early-mid 90's- I'd have to go and look it up, but I think they ran Mondeos for the likes of Thierry Boutsen in the German STW Cup around 94-6. (Ford's STW Cup efforts were spread over 2 or 3 teams- I think Eggenberger and Schubel - and I can't remember who drove for which team-...)

Likely to be at Brands Hatch August 31st. |

Group A is about to become registered as a historic category in Australia. Dick Johnson's sole remaining Sierra (he built at least five) sits mostly in his museum at the race team headquarters at Yatala, but has been outside to do some demonstartion laps in recent times at Albert Park.
It is expected several Sierras will be presentfor the historic Group A race at the Bathurst 1000 this year. |

So many RS500 Sierras were built during the Group A era, it's a wonder to where they've all gotten to.
I've tried to work this out before, and I've managed to count at least 6 Sierras built by DJR (not including any show cars). I don't think they built any after 1990, so there are the two original cars sold to Trakstar in the UK for Robb Gravett and Mike Smith, the car sold to Ray Lintott to run in Valvoline colours, and the three that stayed with DJR that all ran at Bathurst in 1991. As has been said, one is still with DJR, one was recently advertised for sale in WA; what's happened to all the others? |

There is an ex Tony Longhurst one at the museum at the Performance Driving centre at Norwell, Gold Coast, QLD Australia. It is either an ex Rouse car or one of their Wolf cars with lots of Rouse bits in it.
Another ex-Longhurst Rouse car is in the museum at Bathurst. The DJR car in their museum came 1st at Bathurst in 1989 (Johnson/Bowe), 2nd 1990 (Radisich/Allam) and 2nd 1992(Johnson/Bowe). Not bad for one car. |

A Brock Sierra (Rouse?) made its way to WA in the mid 90's. I vaguely recall Trevor Hines owning it.
