Mark Winterbottom wins Kart stars series

Mark Winterbottom has wrapped up the 2001 Ford KartStars series by taking second place at the Todd Road (Melbourne) final on the weekend. Winterbottom went in to the weekend battling with fellow NSW driver Chris Cox for the prized Formula Ford drive, but after Cox made contact with Wiliam Yarwood late in the race, Mark was able to breath easy and secure the series with second. The round win went to Matthew Wall with Josh Arandt taking third. Winterbottom won the series with Cox and Yarwood in second and third.

well done to MarK on a great effort and I look forward to seeing how he goes next year when he moves up to tackle the world of formula ford.

philneast should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Hold the boat Marcus!

He hasn't got the drive yet. Last year they took the top four points scorers and worked from there.

They did a lot of physical and reaction testing at a sports institute.

Then they all had a test session in a car before the final decision was made.

The points winner in Caruso did get the drive eventualy.

ooppps..sorry Phil..I assumed that because he won the kart stars series he would automatically get the F Ford drive ..as Carruso did .

and it must be said that the Kartstars Formula Ford team didnt really do alot this year even with a guy who has obvious talent as Carruso does.

but anyway Im sure Winterbottom has the makings of a fine driver and personally I think he should get the drive next year ..but who knows there have been quite a few stand outs this year in the series..we will have to wait and see.
