Worst Le Mans...
Whilst e all love enduro sportscar racing, there must be a worst Le Mans in people's minds. One that has lacked the verve of other events. At the expense of the regular sycophantic butt-licking what do regular LM goers think has been the worst and why?
Me - 2003. Procession or what! Bentley shafted Wallace et al, Audis did not have the latest tyres - a load of contrived rubbish. Yes we had a bit of fun fun with Gunnar and the Courage late on but that was it. |

All of them since it has been by invite only.

Completely agree with all of you. Invite only is simply madness. Bring back pre-qualyfying and actually get people to race for entries. At least then we will see teams like Zytek and LNT who deserve to be there. What makes it worse has to be the fact that Zytek's car will be useless in Europe at the end of the year and it really is a Le Mans winner. As for LNT well, what can you say - simply a laughable decision.

Personally for me it was 2001. IMO the rain spoilt what potentially could have been a great race but was ultimately spoiled IMO by the rain.

2001...... Rain Rain Rain
Was my first visit to the Sarthe, nearly drowned, had to camp on Parking Rouge and had the car emptied by nice North-African Frenchies which resulted in a long stay at the local police-station on Monday. But despite that I was hooked for life, come on Le Mans 2005. |

The one the Dauer-Porsche won. Should not have been allowed to compete - drove a coach & horses through the regulations.

Recent years : 2001 - a nightmare due to the weather, a poor show due to Audi procession.
Oldies not goldies : 1993 (28 entries ?) ; 1975 (crisis race) |

Not all the grid is by invite, a high percentage got an entry by winning a race last year. But we are going over old old ground. The worst race in recent years has to be 2001. |

For me, the description "worst" has a number of possible meanings.
1. As a race, I found 1989 mind-numbingly boring once the Jags had failed. Probably psychological as I didn't want the Saubers to win..... 2. On a historic note, 1990 takes some beating as the worst as it brought with it the "carbuncles" on the Mulsanne. Same goes for other years when the circuit was changed - 1987 when Dunlop Curve was emasculated, the arrival of the all-round debris fencing in the mid-90s and more recently, the ruination of the run down to the Esses. 3. On a personal note though, the worst has to be 1987. I was desperately ill on the Sunday. So much so that at about 3.00 p.m. I gave up all pretence of trying to watch and remain interested and went and sat in the car in the garage rouge. |

1992 Fab. (1993 was the return of the GTs). But 1992 was an interesting year - a desperately poor entry (in numbers) but with 6-7 prototypes up the front that were worthy of a race on their own. I went with my friend Peter (the Tourists didn't bother) and I always reckoned it was their loss. I wouldn't have missed it (and the laughable Debora) for the world. |

2001 my first visit, inexperienced no preparation. Then the atlantic ocean coming down and the almost boring Audi domination. Bit disappointing but didn't put me off to return though.

For me, I would say the races from 1997 through to 2001.
The reson? Due to University, I could'nt attend any of these, after my first experiecne in 1996. I cannot imagine not enjoying Le Mans, somehow. Yours, rose tinted glasses |

The 1992 edition was the worst I saw : a good race but only 28 cars among them spyders Peugeot from a national serie with 200 cv... and an awful weather.
