DTM format to change

The format of the DTM series could change next season. Instead of the usual sprint and feature races, TV demands could see the DTM adopt an F1 style 1 long races system. This could see either a 100km race or a timed 70min race to bring the DTM more in line with F1.

These changes towards F1 have been happening slowly but syrely haven't they? First the point change to F1 (as it was then - which does raise a question, are they going to echo the new F1 points?)

Major con with it - less excitement if they spread out early on leaving us with 50 minutes of F1-style yawning!

disaster. Its more exiting with the two race format. People might disagree and I have no problems at all with that but IMO with a long race you will see allot less action because they normaly spread out after the period of time they normaly settle down in, in a normal race, and the only action is someone gaining a tenth or so on someone else, where as in a short race they are bunched up and there is plenty of action. It will become boring. Only My Opinion. Disscuss my lengh theiory.

Not so much F1 but sportscars. That is really what DTM is nowadays - maybe we should move it out of the touring car forums and into the sportcar forum.

As a devout follower of the sportscar forum I plead with you - Please keep the DTM out of the sportscar forum!!
Tell you what, why don't you wait a while, it'll be gone in about 2 seasons

Sadly I think you're right - which is why the organisers seem to be doing everything they can to become the German equivalent of British GTs.

Which wouldn't be all that bad. But it still has a long way to go.

If DTM dies or turns into a GT style championship do you think drivers like Menu and Aiello would want to return to touring championships like the BTCC?

Not necessarily - Menu has done well in GTs, Aiello in sportscars; those guys are allrounders really. I'd say most TC drivers can do well in GTs, and vice versa (look at Jörg & Dirk in the ETCC). In the end, they'll take the best offer.
