That's a very useful thing to do with the remains of a 504 after the front's been shunted!
I can't work out if it has a foreign axle in it, though. Can you blow up the wheel detail so I can have a look? Seriously, I'm interested... |

No, but I'm quite sure I can put my hands on the back end of a 504 that's been doing nothing for a while...

It's not that bad, looks like it's neck and 'neck' with the Fiat 127 in the background.

If petrol prices keep going the way they have been, you may be seeing more of these!

KC, when I saw your picture, I thought of this shot from a bike trip many moons ago, and have just scrounged it up this weekend. Have never posted a photo before, so hope it works and hope it isn't too small, big, blurry etc etc
SL, got a good laugh from your comments, by the way, I too got mega mpg, this was near Bordeaux France, so it was more appropriately miles per litre of a nice cheap red luiquid. |

It's a Peugeot 504 sedan... no question. But the axle may be (is probably...) from something else.

Yep. It's a Peugeot 504 alright.
Or was. Smiffy, there are precious few 504s left in Britain, but those that are still running seem to be kept in good condition. As shown by this one I found on a rather excellent Peugeot web page. To see 504's in action, though, look no further than the James Bond film "For Your Eyes Only", and check out the chase between a yellow Citroen 2cv6 and a pair of villainous Peugeots. (Both of which meet a sticky end!) |

They may be 14s, but are forward of their normal position. And the stud pattern looks wrong, though you can't see it properly.
504s were built 1968 throught to about 1981, superceded by 505s, which were just a bit larger but the same package. |

I've impressed myself with my knowledge of French cars. I've never been a frog car fan, but i picked that one as a Pug 504 straight away, though now I'm thinking it looks a little like a Renault, can't remember which model but it was "Wheel's COTY" in '74.
It's definitely not a Mk II Escort, I just helped a friend panel beat the rear quarter of his and it looked nothing like that when we finished. Oh, no! Maybe we did it wrong. |
