Classic Touring Cars
Hi Guys.
Probably the wrong Forum & the wrong thread, but you guys speak our language and we need help. We compete in the South African Classic Touring Car Series for Pre 1977 Saloon Cars. A big issue over here is engine capacity and what is allowed. 2010 rules read as follows. Engine capacity under 1300 may be increased to 1450cc. Engine Capacity between 1300cc and 1600 cc may be increased by 25% Engine capacity between 1600cc and 2000 cc may be increase by 15% Engine capacity over 2000cc may only be increased by 10% How does this compare to rules in the U K or Europe? Any info & feedback will be appreciated. Regards Henry Korkie Cape Town South Africa |

Masters series with TopHat - (pre 31.12.65) and 70s Series for cars of the 1970s. Classic Touring Cars (CTCRC) has several categories from Pre-65 through to the 90s, I believe. CSCC has 60s Tin Tops. I hope I've got all those right but the main point is that the websites for all those clubs should have the Technical Regulations available for you to download. By the way, welcome to 10Tenths Henry. |

Masters Touring 70s (where my Escort runs) follow the period App J Gp2 regulations. In 1971 & 75 the specific rule states 'Reboring of the engine is free up to the limit of the capacity class to which the car belongs'. For 1976 this changed to 'A 0.6mm maximum reboring is permitted'. So a 1977 Mk2 Escort RS for instance should be 1860cc max, but a 1974 Mk1 RS can be up to 2 litres. As said, other series organisers rules may differ, but from memory +0.6mm bore is commonly accepted as norm. Hope that helps Mike |

All Classic Touring Car Club championships with the exception of Classic Thunder (which is more a catch all) are restricted to original stroke crank and a +60thou overbore what ever that takes you out to. There is a 1st Generation Camaro expected out at Silverstone in Post Historics that has a stroker crank and 6.2 litre capacity an increase of 500cc and has been allowed for this year to compete in the invitation class as there was some confusion when the chap bought the car and innocently spent a fortune on it not realising it was incorrect.
He is not a mechanic/engineer and was completetly open about it and we accepted it as a genuine mistake hence the allowance and as I race against him in a similar car I have no objections. BTW he will have to run extra ballast at the 6200cc engine size as all cars have a cc/weight formula, i.e. the larger the cc the more the car has to weight which should level things out a tad. The longer stroke crank will produce tyre shedding torque and as we are on 225x15 Histo tyres that will be another great leveller as I have enough trouble getting my 5.7 to hook up and stop lighting up the back tyres so it should be interesting, come along to Silverstone on the 7/8th May and see! |
