F1 2008 Round 15 - Singapore Grand Prix - 26th-28th September 2008
The 2008 SingTel Singapore Grand Prix is the fifteenth race of the 2008 Formula One season. It will be the first ever Singapore Grand Prix which is part of a Formula One Championship. It is to be held 26 September - 28 September at a newly built street circuit on the Marina Bay, Singapore.
It will be the first ever Formula One race held at night and will be the 800th Formula One World Championship race overall. It is at one of two new circuits in 2008, the other being at the 2008 European Grand Prix in Valencia, Spain. Lewis Hamilton of McLaren leads the Drivers Championship by a single point from Felipe Massa of Ferrari. Third-placed man Robert Kubica closed in on the leaders at the Italian Grand Prix and is now 14 points behind Hamilton, whilst Kimi Räikkönen, the World Champion is 21 points behind the leader. Ferrari lead the Constructors' Championships by only 5 points after Heikki Kovalainen finished 2nd in the Italian Grand Prix for McLaren-Mercedes. BMW Sauber lie a further 12 points behind. Renault and Toyota are 76 points behind BMW in tied 4th place. The last event called the Singapore Grand Prix was held in 1973, and won by Australian Vern Schuppan in a March. Brilliant as ever.
I wonder what this weekend holds for us? I'm not too keen on 'street circuits'.Monaco was only OK because it rained and Valencia showed why the 2009 regulations (if they work) can't come soon enough. It will at least be more 'atmospheric' than Valencia.God save the classic track! Note: I wouldn't have thought that there'd be a problem with "heating tyres" since the night time temperatures are just as hot as the day time ones.Unless of course it rains........... Dissapointing track, they might as well end the race after turn 1 because no overtaking for a points paying position will happen after that. Only things its got going for it is the night atmosphere and the possibility of rain.

Good job as always, Cougar.
I don't think it could actually be any worse than Valencia. Valencia would probably have been improved by being in the dark. |

Is anyone else worried about the chicane at turns 10 and 11? The ripple strips look kind of dangerous and awkward.

OT, but my dad is convinced that F1 is doing the opposite of what the Chinese did for the opening ceremonies...seeding clouds so that it rains on a race weekend.
back on topic, do people think that the parc ferme rules should be changed to allow teams to change their setup after quali in anticipation of rain? running in the wet with a dry setup is just dangerous and while it throws up some interesting results (which i do enjoy) ,would the racing be better if teams were allowed to hedge their weather predictions the day of the race instead of the day before? |

I dont see many places to overtake on this track, turn 1, 6 and 14 are the only real opportunities but i doubt many will risk trying as the track is going to be very dirty off the line and with the walls being so close.

Why dont they just simply allow the teams to change the setup?
I really don't understand why the restriction on this exists in the first place. I remember something about "building custom cars", but surely changing settings would be using the same parts, so what gives? |
