BGP Marshalling - Whats Happening?

Does anyone know what is happening with marshalling the BGP 2005?

I submitted my application via the Donington ES Team in Oct/Nov 2004 and have heard nothing since. Last year we had been informed whether we were accepted or not by now. I presume with the 'it's, on, it's off, it's on' game things have been delayed, but can anyone shed any light on the situation?

Thanks

I wouldn't really worry too much at this early stage but if excitment gets the better of you (And it did with me!) call the MSA and ask to speak with someone who deals with Officials for the BGP.

I recently received a letter from the MSA (I am Asst. Chief Startline Marshal), stating there has been "organisational" delays, but they were pressing ahead with the selection of marshals and officials. I guess we will all have to be patient and hang on a little longer.

just going on from what Bryan says... I spoke with Joint chief flag (Rod)
who informed me that the chiefs had only just started recieving their invites so by the time they the get together and go through the various lists it may be 2-3 weeks before any other invites get sent... moral DON'T PANIC

I only forwarded on an application last week and the MSA told me they have not touched them yet.

Due to family issues I haven't had a chance to apply. Is it too late?

Dear all, if you have not applied for various reasons then first suggestion is to write to the msa marshals admin so any late application can be put to the chiefs on thier meetings...i believe a nomination form can be downloaded via the msa website

Dont these people at the MSA realise that we have lives to lead outside motor sport and have to make arrangements and plans as well?

I think you'll find that the MSA are not to blame on this occasion.

Personally if I've volunteered I assume that I'm going to be there and make provisional plans and allocate holiday accordingly. That is unless I know that I've naffed someone off who might be making a decision on my attendance!

If the MSA are not to blame then who is? I sent my application in in November with everyone else so why does it take so long to say yes you will be needed for marshaling the Grand Prix? If there wasn't going to be one they could notiffy us by the media so where is the problem?

They do have other things to do apart from just the BGP.

Things are not always as clear cut as they seem.

You have to remember that it also involves getting all the individual discipline Chiefs together for the selection meeting.

Why don't you all save all that time off from work, money, long days/early mornings all to line B.E's pockets and go to Brands to see the Mini's race....at least you'll see overtaking!!!

So the MSA are supposed to process all the applciations in November, inform everybody that they are needed, so that the date could be changed again and everyone say "Actually, can't do that new date". Not really fair for the MSA to then have to go through all the apps again. Can't really see the problem in them waiting. As has been said already, don't plan anything for that weekend.

I'm with piglet on this one, I have sent off my application and although it is only going to be my first time I am assuming that I will be required and therefore have booked my holiday.

The MSA have been messed around quite a lot with date changes and all of the uncertainty over whether it was actually going to take place. Now thats all sorted I'm sure they are trying to sort out the applications and will let us know as soon as they can.

I'm not worried, its still about 5 months away!

Thanks for all the info, I didn't want to start a discussion, but I remembered that things were well underway this time last year.

Hope to see the marshal's who are F1 fans there!

Had a phone call yesterday from a friend who has volunteered to marshal at the GP but is out of the country for the remainder of March and all of April. He phoned the MSA and was told that the selection board has not even sat yet so don't worry. We should hear around the middle of March. Any way, why should we worry, its only 5 races over 3 days. We get twice as many as that at a normal race day at Oulton!

My advice to anyone who has volunteered is to book the holiday from work. It's unlikely that you will be turned down assuming you have met all the relevant criteria.

I look forward to meeting a few new faces in July!

The selection committee will be meeting on Wednesday 16th March. I will be one of the attendees. I will ask when notifications will be sent out and try to keep you informed.
