Question Re: RS500 Sierra Engines

Would someone please be able to inform me exactly what the base engine was in the RS500 as used by DJR, Eggenberger etc and if it was ever used in any other cars in the same form?
Thanks in advance
Tony

I believe, it was the Cosworth YB which traces it's roots back to the old Pinto 2L of the 70's.

Yep, it was essentially the Ford Pinto block, used in many British small cars since the 70's. In SOHC 1.6L form it was the base engine for the Sierra and in 2 Litre SOHC Form the Ford Granada at the time.
In Cosworth form, it also appeared in the Cosworth Sierra Saphire, a sedan version of the Sierra which was also AWD. From memory, it was also in a rally version of the Escort before the Focus appeared.
