where to stay near Silverstone
Going testing at Silverstone on Friday.
Has anyone a good recommendation where to stay thats cheapish nearby? Thought of the Towcester Travel Lodge, but eating might be a problem as generally they just have a Little Chef onsite. Please no comedy answers!!! |

Try the Green Man. It is now a Premier Lodge. I'm in there for the WHT. www.premierlodge.com.
Edited to say it is close enough for you to mountain bike it [you fit specimen you] Last edited by diz; 11 Oct 2004 at 18:02. |

I'm going to move this to the Racers forum, where it will get a wider audience and hopefully more feedback therefore.

Travel lodge has got a Macdonalds on site, so Ian & Stu both being students will be ok !!
The pub next to the crossroads in Towcester's ok for accom and the Chinese across the road is ace (the rice bowl i think) |

When I threw my toys out of the plan in a major way they managed to moved us (but not until I threw a major strop). I think that there is a new part of the building and an old part (split a bit bizarrely) - the old part of the builder has very serious noise issues but the newer part was not too bad but there is no way I would ever go back there again and take the chance - it was probably the worst place I have stayed. Edited to say - I would agree on the Chinese though and it is the Rice Bowl. Last edited by Piglet; 12 Oct 2004 at 15:21. |

If anyone having trouble finding anywhere to stay near Silverstone for WHT, have just cancelled two rooms for the Saturday and Sunday nights at the Green Man, so should be some there.

Fantastic info. Thanks bbr73.
We've actually booked at the Green Man now, but the info will come in handy for next time. Note for Ian Sowman and other Mods - Why doesn't someone compile a list of good places to stay at various circuits around the uk and encourage the hotels to pay a nominal sum for the inclusion on the site? The info could be collated from a thread posted simutaneously on various threads. F3 teams = big posh hotels, FF1600 = camp sites and public loos! Users could rate the accommodation for the benefit of 10 tenths. Last edited by kartingdad; 21 Oct 2004 at 14:50. |

I think I might steal that idea for www.clubff1600.co.uk - and of course it would be open to non-FF1600 people as well!

Not sure if this is still alive, but I've always camped when at Silverstone for the last ten years or so.
My first year I camped at Whittlebury Hall, which to be honest was not exactly as advertised. Perhaps they've improved. Every other year I've stayed at Windmill Farm as it really is the closest site to the circuit. Very basic when it comes to toilets and showers though. Last year I stayed at Hamilton Fields as it's very well run and professional as the guys that run it are not farmers who just happen to own a big muddy field. For other options, such as Bed and Breakfast or Hotels, you could try here, www.gpsurvival.com. |

Blimey I think you've just won todays e-cheology prize!
Its worth bearing in mind that the campsites you meantion aren't always open as many of them are just there for the GP. |

Good point. Woodlands (spit) is only open during MotoGP and F1. Hamilton Fields is open for all events, including Renault Series and Classic. Litchlake is more or less the same. Not sure about Windmill and the others. Does than mean a disclaimer "Please check with your chosen operator"? |
