Scott Wimmer Arrested
Scott Wimmer was arrested over the weekend for drunk driving after he wrecked the truck he was driving. Wimmer is scheduled to drive the #22 Cat Dodge for Bill Davis this season for rookie of the year. Personally I have to say I hope he loses his ride for something this stupid, especially since Robbie Moroso died in a drunk driving accident in 1990. The sponsors probally won't be too happy either. Does NASCAR require driver's to have a valid driver's license? I know a lot of racing series do, so he might be out of a job by default anyway.

Not a good career move, I'm sure! Did I see that his wife was also ticketed for a related incident?

Yeah his wife was charged for obstruction after the accident. Scott went and hid in his house and she tried to cover for him I think.

Considering that Tomas Enge lsot the 2002 F3000 title for having a tiny trace of maruijana in his blood, Wimmer should defiantely get a lengthy suspension. Cars and alcohol are both great, but together they can be deadly, and people who race at high speed need to be seen to be setting the right example. All the same, I hope he gets another chance and proves himself worthy of it.

He definately deserves a hefty penalty for doing something so dangerous & stupid, apart from the danger involved with driving under the influence there is also the poor image that gets sent out to motorsport fans if he were to keep his drive.

This morning it's being reported that Cat (his sponsor) will stand behind him. So he will probally still be driving the car this season providing NASCAR let's him. They haven't announced any penalties yet. I think he should at least be suspended like Shane Hmiel was.

Here's another update. Wimmer will be allowed to race until the drunk driving matter is resolved. So no NASCAR penalty right now.

He should be thrown in jail for sheer stupidity...a professional driver and right before season starts!
(lock the door and throw away the key ) And it's not being harsh, considering his profession. His poor family, team, and fans...I bet they're feeling rotten over this. |

Some new news here. Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) is pushing to have Wimmer suspended if he is convicted on the drunk driving charges. I think that sounds like a pretty good idea.

Moroso was a great driver (missed out on a bid for his transporter and race car model on ebay last week-damn!)-was he the drunk one or was it the other driver anyone know?-a real shame whatever way.

Robbie was the drunk driver. That was a pretty bad deal and a pretty bad way to be remembered. Especially since he was a talented driver and had a lot of success.

MADD wants him suspended from racing? What's next?
A public execution? Give him a chance to learn from his mistake(albeit a big one). |
