[V8SC09R25&26] Telstra 500, Homebush Precinct, Sydney

Will Mr Ambrose front at this event?

Will Mr Whincup blow away the field? Will there be someone different show their shiny selves?

Will it be as hot in Sydney as it has been the last 3 days so the whole place melts into a puddle...?

Only 2 weeks now till we find out!

#39 to get its maiden win?

Rachel Richards should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
It will be all about the bumps......

My tip is 888 will bounce over them, and Jamie will finish as a true champ should, with a Sunday win.

Hrrm..

I'm tipping the #1 Vodafone Commodore of Whincup to win (No, i do expect him to be driving a VE), unless perhaps there is a certain Pirtek Falcon lurking around unexpectedly...

Going to be an interesting few days with all this Ambrose Chatter.

JC might be a threat also as he seems to excel on circuits where half the field hasn't done 1million laps over the last decade..

By the time they get the barriers in it won't be too wide I wouldn't think.

i'm down that way a fairbit and have done a couple laps trying to picture in my head how it will be and IMO not liking it at all as someone else said it is like Canberra.

Likewise, circuit is bumpy, narrow and fairly boring...it's no Adelaide. In plenty of places it is only 2 lanes and there appear to be few run off areas so expect the races to be littered with safety car appearances. The whole Olympic precinct has been a a ghost town since 2000 and for good reasons there is very little going for it, its hardly a showcase for Sydney.

IMO the best place for Sydney to have a street race would have been around The Rocks, under the Harbour Bridge and along Walsh Bay to Hickson Road with the latter being an ideal pit area, a bit like the Wellington street circuit. Granted the locals may not have been best pleased, but the NSW government seems to have no qualms closing off the city for marathons, visiting dignitaries etc and this part of the city is mainly geared for tourism.

I thought that in the V8 Extra Homebush preview back in July Mark Skaife said they were going to remove the tree lined median strips. If they haven't done this the track will be a complete fiasco-worse than either Canberra or Hamilton.

Ron Dickson proposed a track around the Rocks (admittedly with A1GP in mind originally) in 2008, saying it could provide a similiar appearance to Monaco.

track i made on google maps for the rocks

not sure how you would get on with grandstands pits and other facilities but one thing is for sure it's a pretty nice backdrop.
