I'm not sure this story has actually been confirmed - there's nothing about it on Autosport.com or DailyF1.com.

If DC goes I'm not pleased. Or Mika for that matter, since it's the car that let them down. I suppose this is an attempt to snatch him before Ferrari, no other reason.

If this is true, then as I have said before David Coulthard is in for the shock of his life...

I cant see Kimi spending 2002 waiting on the sidelines as a mere test-driver for Mclaren; waiting for Hakkinen to retire after the end of '02.
Don't do it Kimi! - You've already said you want to race for Ferrari, so why go to the enemy? |

Kimi never said he wants to race for Ferrari. He wants to race for trhe best team. McLaren is clearly the better team. Ferrari is a one man band.

Autosport reported that McLaren wanted to sign Raikkonen for 7 years - one as a test driver and 6 as a race driver.
I hope he doesn't have to sit out as a test driver (although they want back-up in case Hakkinen quits mid-2002) because he is far too talented to do that. |

I'd stay with Sauber even though they've lost the 2001 car designer.

I really don't hope he Kimi will sign as a test driver for next year. If they want him they can make him sign a contract for 2003 already now, but honestly I would really be surprised if a guy like Kimi signs a test driver contract. I hope not, Sauber is a good school for him...

Ok now I read this article in italian.
It says that Mercedes is pretty angry with McLaren and took over the power somehow. They want changes. It's said that Hakkinen this year was never really in the competition and that Coulthard even risks a second place in the WDC. Funny...now it say that Huppert and Cordes took over the power from Dennis and he has to ask them first if his decisions are ok, then they will approve them or deny them. It's said that Peter Sauber in first place has confirmed the change of Kimi Raikkönen from Sauber to McLaren, and they think that the most likely choice for the exchanged driver is Mika, the driver who is getting tired of F1 and who really is thinking about ending his carreer with the end of the season. The article is from 11:58 a.m. on September 6th 2001, but one big thing I miss...the source. The site TGCOM usually is pretty reliable, but who knows...lol.We will know early enough what has happened. If Sauber has confirmed according to them, it should be written on the Sauber homepage. Anyone checked? Best regards, Julian |

One year as a test-driver ! Non sense !
The boy already show he can do it. Why let him in the shadow of DC or Mika ???? |

Lol...actually the italian press is far from being with the bad ones on this planet...have a look in the States...lol...almost ridiculous to even call it press there...
The best argument against this article is the fact that TGCOM seems to have strong connections to Berlusconi's media, and this isn't the best source if you want to hear the truth. Best regards, Julian |

IS IT TRUUUUUUUUUUE?!?!?! OH MAN I HAVE TO KNOW!!!
If he's signed a contract which gives him a year's testing (silly boy) then it is a great shame. If he hasn't then I have no idea which driver will be replaced - the rumour was that Mika would become test driver, but another said that Mika and Kimi would be team-mates next season... It is true that Kimi never said he wanted to drive for Ferrari - he stated he wanted to drive for the best team, hence, currently Ferrari. (The cover of F1 Racing I believe said 'Ferrari's Next World Champion' or somesuch rubbish, it would be nice if their journalism could be a little less Ferrari/Coulthard/Jaguar biased... ) |

A testing role with the security to drive in 2003 is a great move for Kimi. He has the time to learn the car and team and avoid embarrasment a la Button. He would not be in the same situation of Panis or Wurz.
Ron Dennis is smart. He knows exactly what he is doing. He wants Hakkinen to transfer his experience to Raikkonen which will be more than valuable for a young man. |

I think you mean bye bye David Coulthard don't you? And Mr BBKing...With the way he is driving why would he wish to take a testing job?? he can drive give him next season's McLaren and let him rip! Mika and Kimi can take it to Michael and Ruben's. David on the other hand can not and never will.. Regards...Jeremy Last edited by JeremySmith; 7 Sep 2001 at 00:01. |
