The Name Chevron?
Ok- I know this is a silly question, but why did Derek Bennett come up with the name Chevron?

You're welcome!
The book is quite good, some passages echoing a novel, imho...good read, anyway |

I Got It!
Ok- so here is what I learned ( if I got it wrong or left something out, feel free to correct the rookie ); Derek Bennett was at the counter of a store and while waiting he was gazing at poster with highway code symbols and on the walls. On this poster there was a line of alternate black & white arrows with the description underneath using the word '. Chevrons'. He then said to Doug and Paul Linton " That is it, we'll call them Chevrons". prior to this he was considering calling them 'Bennett Specials'

When the FII regs changed along with FI in the '70s, a chum of mine was in the paddock for scrutineering when Derek presented his new FII Chevron.
The regs had been updated by the FIA to demand that rollover bars could withstand xg of impact. Bewnnet averred his could; then started a typically pernickty argumanet which was concluded by the RAC srute stating that since Bennett wasn't a qualified engineer, he was unable to certify his design................. Whereupon another constructor stepped in, who was a qualified mechanical engineer (can't remember now who) said "Don't be so bloody silly; I'll certify it!". The Chevron FII raced and won...................... |

I also have a copy from the SCCA here in the USA & Derek Bennett in regards to testing the roll over hoop and having it passed, he got the approval.
