Mackmot should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
GPL is really annoying me. Its just too hard.
I get my dad to do setups for me as he is the best engineer in the world and Ive even had formula foord drivers testing for me but noone can get fast enough to even get to 19th on the grid.

Hi Mackmot, welcome to 10-Tenths.
Yes, Grand prix Legends is very hard to play.
The only thing to do is practise, practise and practise.
But maybe you should read a topic called 'Cheats for GPL', also on this forum.
They're not really cheats, but some url's of sites that can maybe of any help to you.

Get a wheel and pedals, as playing with a joystick is a nightmare.
The lap times by the AI cars are a liitle quicker than real life so follow the URLs to find out how to slow Jim Clark down!

Getting the controls set right is more important than the cars, initially anyway

PS I'm useless at it too, but when I get the FF wheel....

Mackmot, I understand your frustration, but stay with it. How long have you been trying? Which car(s) have you been driving? A few tips that have worked for me:

Be sure to take it easy until the tires warm up or you'll never be able to get past the really slippery stage, maybe two or three laps without going off.

As stated above, use pedals and a wheel.

Be sure you don't have the brake bias set-up so that the rears lock first. So far I've found the Ferrari's brakes easiest to control. Also, the Ferrari is much more forgiving on the limit than the Lotus.

Are you monitoring tire temperatures? Have you read the manual concerning camber settings and tire pressures?

I hope the above can be of some help. So far, on a good day I qualify 11-13th and finish the race without losing places and on a bad day, well, you know how it can be...

What speed does your CPU run at, how much RAM do you have and which video card are you using? It is a must to have enough processor power, otherwise you can not properly control the car.

But it does get better with time!

Do you think driving an actual race car is easy? It just takes a LOT of practice. It took me nearly 2 months of continuous practice to race well. And YES it is possible to qualify on the pole. The only two tracks I can do that at are Silverstone and Watkins Glen. Both courses I have broken the track records, but again, this took almost 2 months of racing nearly everyday for 20-30 minutes! I prefer the Lotus chassis and I actually don't work with the setup any. Just drop the gas down for about 8 laps or so and go out and make some flyer laps...have fun!
