Speculation
Just thought I'd put in my two cents about the rampant speculation on this site. I only just recently started visiting here and I find it interesting to read all the posts that are based on absolutely groundless speculation. I mean, I have no special knowledge of the inside negotiations of F1 teams, and my guess is that most of the "posters" here don't either. You all seem to have your sources, each more reputable than the last, but none of them are solid IMO. You might say so and so reported, or according to so and so's manager or whatever, but it just becomes pointless after a while.Bottom line is these people are in sensitive negotiations and they won't release information to the public until its a sealed deal...until then anything can happen.
I know you all have the right to speculate, and it is fun to do so, and I really don't want to ruffle anyone's feathers, but when i read the endless strings of messages about where your buds are going to be driving next year, I just have to chuckle. Marvan |

Welcome to ten-tenths, enjoy!
Rumour, speculation and gossip fuel the off-season and I guess the posts you refer, to reflect that. No doubt, some of them may prove to be right, in the end, sort of... ST |

This happens in all sports everyone dreams of Ronaldo or Jordan in their team. Besides there is also a lot of good information here. After a while you will know who is realiable and those who are being sarcastic. But importantly it gives F1 fans a chance to air greviances and discuss current or topical issues that ordinarily one would not be able to do - I do not know many people [real life] who enjoy F1 as much as I do. Ten Tenths gives me the oppotunity to indulge / listen to others etc. Essentially you get something out of this Forum.
Welcome to ten tenths - rather contentious first post |

Welcome Marvan.
I agree with redblurr. I too have trouble finding people to talk to about my love of motor racing in general. Besides what else can we do during the closed season? |

Welcome aboard!
BTW I'd like to comment that the rumours linking me to the vacant Jaguar seat are absolutely NOT true. I'm holding out for a Ferrari drive, with the aim being to oust Michael Schumacher. |

Welcome Marvan!
Yeah, a lot of speculation goes on, but it's all good fun and something to talk about. Sometimes it's even turns out to be right which can be a feather in the cap for this forum. Personally, I think paulzinho will get the Jag drive and DriverT will replace DC at McLaren in 2005. Remember, you heard it here first! Last edited by Spudgun; 19 Oct 2003 at 22:33. |

Hope this speculation doesn't put you off enjoying the site fella, and welcome
I think it's fair to say that most threads are started when someone has read something from the various sites like autosport and f1-live etc, and afterall, the majority of that is speculation |

PS 'Minivan'...I 'speculated' that Sato would replace Villeneuve months ago, and another poster was the first to Speculate that Sato would drive in his place at Suzuka!...'IT, SMOKE, PIPE, IN, PUT, YOUR, THAT, AND'.
I speculate that you could rearrange those words into a well know phrase!...Or do you need help?...hahahahah |

To echo the above comments.
I've certainly learnt a lot from reading other peoples thoughts on 10/10, and I've read rumours on here that have turned out to be right - in the end.... We've had some great debates, and no doubt will have many more. Sit back and enjoy. |

Why would he be in a McLaren Armco Bender? Isnt Dixon the apple of Toyota's eye??
McLaren will be too full by then, with Lewis Hamilton doing so well.... |

marvan656,
Welcome to 10/10ths. What is wrong with rumour, especially as this is a general motorsport discussion board? It wouldnt be discussion without rumour would it. Besides as many above have pointed out, many of the rumours have become true over time. If you want fact, go read a book or subscribe to press releases. If you want interesting debate on what is going on in todays motorsport, then hang around as it doesnt get much better than 10/10ths. Enjoy |

What you're seeing is the usual off season fever. Without the races, the forum animals get a litlle restless... |

Welcome.
There is nothing wrong with posting speculation as long as we all accept it is just that (both the original poster and the readers). At the end of the day we might learn something. Posting something with a reference or linked evidence obviously helps. However the problem is when someone claims something is true without any evidence. If this happens expect to be questioned, which is only fair enough, and don't be surprised when people don't beleive you. I dare say a thread that starts "Montoya to replace Michael at Ferrari - FACT" with nothing else in the first post won't last very long If you manage to include a mpg of Montoya and Michael signing these contracts and discussing what fun it is to swap seats along with a scanned copy of the contract and signed statements from Jean Todt, Frank Williams and God then it will be OK Bononi is right, it is the off season, we need something to keep us going! A final thing. If someone types FACT next to some text it usually means it isn't! |

Marvan,
I think you'll find a lot of the rumours have certain elements of truth to them... They've been true more than once! And you might be surprised that some people on this forum do actually have some good connections. Remember, the people that stick around in these forums are big F1 fanatics, and you'll find that some of them work (or have worked) in the industry for quite some time. That said, we've heard that JV will be driving for every team next year, and it's WEARING THIN!!! |

You are so right Zuschauer, after I first posted this thread I began reading more of the other posts in greater detail and found them to be quite complete and abviously informed on many levels. I wonder who we have lurking in the wings...?
I've also started reading the CART forum more.I love and have loved F1 for 25 years, but I'm in Vancouver and enjoy the CART race every year so I've naturally followed that too. There's much more intrigue in F1 though.. Marvan |
