Road Races, I wanna see more of them.

I used to be against road racing thinking they had no place on the Nascar calender. But now I must say I have changed my opinion and am entirely pro-Road Racing. Taking 43 of the best drivers and putting them on a track were they've gotta turn left and right(rather then just go around in circles) is the best way(IMO) of seperating the men from the boys. A true test of pure guts and car handling abilities. I think there should be at least 5 or 6 road races a year on the Winston Cup calender, if not more. What do you all think.

I think that you're looking for an argument, that's what I think! (Sorry, you won't get one from me! )

There was a bit of talk about this after the Sears Point and Watkins Glen races (as there usually is). It seems like the vast majority of Nascar fans are opposed to road racing - often passionately! Now, those of us who enjoy other forms of motorsport where oval racing does not predominate seem to appreciate the addition of road racing to the Nascar circuit.

Personally, I would like to see a few more road courses added to the schedule. (Won't happen, of course.) To me, versatility is the key here. It is all well and good for a driver to excel on one type of course - be it short oval, superspeedway, permanent road course, street circuit or whatever - but a truly great driver will master more than one (and the more the better!). This is one of the reasons that I enjoy CART - there is an opportunity for the drivers to show their talents in different arenas.

There certainly should be more road courses in NASCAR. Tracks like Laguna Seca and Road America would be great.

I would like to see two more road races added to the schedule but it isn't likely to happen any time soon. Stock cars just don't draw the crowds at road course events that they do on ovals. NASCAR likes making money and they like road racing as evidence of their creation of the Grand Am series. So if there was money to be made at road racing at the Cup level, NASCAR would have fallen all over themselves to add more road events to their schedule.

Road racing seems to be a treat more for the fans than the pocketbook. If they're going to keep two races for the road courses, hopefully they at least change up the tracks every so often. It'd be nice to run at Elkhart Lake or Mid-Ohio.

Well I would love to see them race at Spa, but that will NEVER happen.

Well, since you ask what I think, I'll tell you. I am one that shares the opinion of the overall majority of NASCAR fans, not to mention teams and drivers as well, that I cannot stand road-racing! I would much prefer to see NASCAR drop the two road-courses, give them a GrandAm event to compensate them for the loss of an event, since it is a road-racing series anyway, and use the two dates to expand into new markets, preferably two short tracks, like maybe Memphis Motorsports Park in TN, and maybe Bakersfield, in CA, or if it has to be big tracks, the new superspeedway at Nashville TN, and at Gateway, in the St Louis/Illinois area.

I understand the viewpoint that oval racing is more exciting for the fans. But I simply think that road racing is the greater test of driver skills(not that I'm saying oval racing is easy).

I heard some rumblings that NASCAR was entertaining the idea of running the road circuit at Indy, in addition to running the Brickyard 400. I think this is wishful thinking as the France family won't even race the Cup cars at the road circuit at Daytona.

Maybe NASCAR wants to run the GrandAm Series at the IMS road-rourse. I know they were trying to push the idea of the Busch cars running on the big oval there, instead of IRP, but IMS was not in favor of that idea (neither am I, the Busch cars put on too good a show at IRP). I doubt we'll see more than one WC race at IMS, and I hope we don't, as for racing stock cars, IMS ain't that great.

As to the claim that it takes more skill to drive road-races than it does to drive ovals, I strongly disagree. I can site numerous road-racing drivers, that have tried to drive stock cars, on ovals, and none of them have done more than just run around the back of the pack, with the rest of the also-rans, and I'm talking about everything from f-1 drivers, down to amature club racers here! If their skills were so all-fired great, they should have been able to simply driver off and leave the "inferior" oval track drivers far behind!
