What are your opinions about sportscar racing???

The italian racing web magazine Racingworld.it has launched a poll finalised to find out what fans think about sportscar racing, as it is now, and what would they prefer about the future

The poll is, of course, in english, and u can see it (and reply) at the following URL

http://www.racingworld.it/fiagt/form/poll2006.html

In seven days time we'll publish the results

Good survey lads, extra points for getting to the heart of the matter re: Grand-AM - "is it because they are slow and ugly?".

For the Grand-Am question, you should add the following option: "The series resembles NASCAR too closely (many crashes and contrived FCYs)."

Have you finished being quite so childish?

I for one enjoy GrandAm and am not afraid to say so but then I also enjoy all other types of sportscar racing, perhaps it's becuase I'm not a prejudiced snob.

Hello

Nice to see a survey on sportscar racing for a change although perhaps I've missed the other ones. I have to admit the LMS is my favourite series; full grids and a proper endurance duration. I do watch, however, ALL sports car racing even the GrandAm when I can. The GrandAms may be ugly and slow but it is sportscar racing and I have seen some cracking races. It would be interesting to see the top ones at Le Mans. Pipe dream???

i'd like it too, maybe some of them would see the finish, but ACO clearly dismissed the hypotesis of admitting such cars

Not really. The top or fastest Grand Am Daytona Protypes are Slower then the AVERAGE GT2 car, Not the Fastest GT2 the AVERAGE GT2 car.

There are several circuits in the US that Grand Am and ALMS run, Mid-Ohio, Sears Point, Mossport for example. The fastest Grand AM DPs are 2 secs a lap slower the the Fastest GT2 cars.

So no the Grand AM DPs would not make the LM grid, they are too slow.

I watch most of the Grand Am races, and go to the two at Virginia International Raceway, my home track 90 mins away, each time they are there. I spend more time looking at the cars in the paddock.

Rember Grand AM or Grand SHAM is owned by NASCAR.

well guys, up to now the most favourite champ. seem to be both LMS and ALMS, which i'm really surpised about, as I expected more votes for FIA GT; in addition, most people seem to prefer the current format of FIA GT races, while I think some changes should be brought in.
The most satysting aspect of these races seems to be the very high numbers of cars in grid, while the most complained one is the TV coverage, not well extended yet.

Well guys, keep voting
u're just great

What type and time wise do the LMS and FIA GT1 races get in europe??

We had the Turkey GT1 race rebroadcast here in the states about a month ago, 45 min of interviews and looking at cars, and 10 min of the race itself. Was from a English Sports TV program.

Also the last question of the poll would have been nice to have "all of the above" as an answer

That is an absolute, flat-out lie.

Fastest race laps:

Mid-Ohio:
GT1: 1:18.873
DP:1:20.711
GT2:1:22.720

Miller:
GT1: 2:36.650
DP: 2:39.006
GT2: 2:44.403

Look at the number of threads here discussing LMS/ALMS compared to FIA GT.

I don't really know who FIA GT is aimed at, and if the rumours are true about the German/Belgian teams, who knows what will happen to GT1 next year.

As for Grand-Am, I'd watch if they raced in the UK, the races I've seen on TV have been enjoyable. But it's not my idea of international sportscar racing, more an interesting national series.

Motors TV

ALMS and LMS are usually live if there are no scheduling conflicts, otherwise, same day, full, ALMS coverage, and 3 hour LMS highlights.

Le Mans, every session and scrutineering live.

1 hour FIA GT Highlights
1 hour FIA GT3 Highlights

Bravo/Player

Live coverage of FIA GT, plus highlights during the week.

To support Lloyd87, I show you a Preview of Italian poll first question:

I think FIA GT is preferred in Italy also beacause since this season Sky Sport Italy coverage is FULL and Perfect.

P.S:
The Italian Poll will be closed today, then tomorrow we will publish the complete results

P.P.S:
Altro = Other ;-)
