Thundersports should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Lydden Hill Libre

I seem to remember in the mid to late 80's Libre races run at Lydden Hill with entries including Formula 1 and Formula 5000 cars. Has anyone got entrys lists or photos I remember Tony Trimmer entering his faithful Lola T330. The thought of racing anything like that around there even now with some circuit improvements is pretty terrifying........

Hi

There was also specific races for F5000 in 1995 and 1996, and yes they were awesome. I think I might have some photos of those around somewhere.

I raced my F5000 March at Lydden in Formule Libre races in 1986 (once at the persistent requests of Bill Chesson, a good friend) then in the RJB Plant Hire series in 1989 and then the F5000 Association meeting in 1996. Also raced our Trojan T102 there in 1995. Tight circuit but great fun and somewhat hard work in the 39 sec laps!

Libre was good racing at Lydden in the early 80`s
Dave rackham in the chevron ex keke rosberg car
Tony ?? (Flint) in his Fatalantic car ( march i recall)
Tim barry in the wimhurst and my mind is blank for the man with the march 713M bda car (copper kettle racing) i will kick myself later ( paul??? )
late 80`s was a lower key affair and into the 90`s F2 some F3 cars ran
it is still going at lydden today grids are up n down but the RAC changed the rules in 1990 Libre was baanned word and races where for upto 2 or 2.5 litre cars only

Driftwood

Yes I raced my FF2000 Wimhurst, FF2000 Agent DR1, F3 March 793 and F5000 March 76A in Libre events.

The Copper Kettle March 713 was driven by that little known chap my good friend Paul Sleeman. Wonder what happened to him?

The Flint chap was Tony Howard. His libre car was his FF2000 Crossle with twin carbed engine.

Due to the engine restrictions I can no longer race there as only have my F5000's.

Had idly thought about a nice F2 March 782/792/802 but I have heard a rumour of a 842 somewhere!!!

He's still going - and he's still got the March! I know 'cos it's in the garage and hopefully will be out later this year!

You can always enter one of the sprints at Lydden as they allow over two litres cars on track!

I saw my Fathers name mentioned here so I thought Id drop in and say hi, I virtually grew up at Lydden Hill watching my father race. Yes Im the gawky red headed kid annoying everyone in the paddock (waves). Hope every one is doing good
My Father passed away in 2003 but I know he'd be thrilled to know his name was still remembered. The company name was Flint the family name was Howard So happy to see you guys still remember him. (Ol grandad would be so proud ).
