It ain't so bad. Eurosport have had to dedicate themselves to the world championship athletics. Sadly there aren't enough CART fans to make our voices heard to get better coverage. I remember Eurosport used to have qualifying on the saturday as well as the race on sunday, plus the weekly inside CART. Luckily they will do a re-run, so catch it all then!
I was mightly ****ed at the time, but you've got to laugh now - that guy at the start |

Our race was delayed 4 hours for a NASCAR race (they don't even race up here) ... and TSN kindly told us the finishing order before it came on. Fortunately I had watched it on live timing, but I'm sure a lot of people were annoyed.

Eurosport's problem is they need more channels.Sky now has SIX,but shows less serious racing than Eurosport's one.As the digital system seems to have an unlimited capacity, there are several +1 channels, showing the same program an hour later! Chelsea FC now has its own channel. Eurosport +1 would solve the problen of overlapping live events.

Well, I didn't see it yesterday because I was away, so I recorded the 1 hour highlights program today and watched it a couple of hours ago after I got home from work. I was a bit annoyed they simply skipped the first 50 or so laps, never got to see what happened between Brack and Papis, the commentator just said that they had collided (again ).

It does seem extremely amateurish of Eurosport to promise live coverage of two events that were almost bound to overlap. If they were committed to showing the jogging to the bitter end, a late evening slot for a tape delayed showing of the CART race would surely have been preferable.
As it was I had to turn off after the first minute of the excruciating studio voice-over. Instead I watched Sky's professional presentation of the brilliant Kentucky IRL race - and didn't regret it at all. Channel 5 showed the CART race in its entirity on Monday night - obviously a recording of the same feed Eurosport had, but they didn't butcher it. Then my only problem was staying awake to the end .... |

Somewhere else in this forum you'll find a statement from CART about the european races being shown live on Italia1 domestic satellite channel (and other domestic channels TBA), I-1 is a FTA channel like eurosport but for Italy only, talk is Channel 5 will show them here.
They [CART] also mention their "wanting" for more live coverage on domestic TV, and they say they are looking forward to a long relationship with Italia1 (and they're only doing 2 races this year) eurosports live deal was for this years only, so read into that what you want ;-) Considering what happened to eurosports F1 coverage a few years back, and their failure to sell the live rights to NASCAR this year to another channel, I don't expect to be watching cart on europsort next year. CART keep saying they are dissapointed with the level of coverage in Europe..... Last edited by LynxSat.com; 16 Aug 2001 at 19:58. |
