Dirt 3
Codemasters have potentially one of the best rally games on its way since I got all excited by the visual effects in CMR3!
Basically, I'll keep this short and sweet: -around 100 stages with rallies including Monte Carlo, Norway, Finland, Kenya, Colorado and more.... -new career mode in which you start as a privateer in 90's Group A style machinery -lots of legendary Rally cars from the Ford RS200, Audi S1 and Peugeot 205T16 to the Lancia Stratos, other 70's cars, the Mini Cooper to the more modern cars including Ken Block's 2010 Ford Fiesta and Kris Meeke's Peugeot 207 S2000. Trailer - http://www.virtualr.net/colin-mcrae-...video-trailer/ More info- http://www.virtualr.net/colin-mcrae-...ails-revealed/ new previews + more details - http://www.virtualr.net/dirt-3-four-...views-details/ |

The graphics are certainly impressive, from reading those articles it sounds like the game is more rally oriented than the previous Dirt game? Also from the video the RS200 appears to be wearing a fictional colour scheme this time around rather than the Doran scheme. Be good to find out a bit more about the rallycross elements of the game

I hoped Codemasters to release Grid 2 before Dirt 3, I really miss it. However, Gran Turismo 5 would overshadow it, whereas the rally part of the GT saga was never good and possibly remains so for this installment.

May? MAY?!?
Oh well. I hope the heavier bias towards rallying is true. I love Dirt 2 but the Baja events and the like are just pathetic. And the endless rallycrossing around bloody Battersea. Yeah, good one Codies. |

In many ways, an HD remake of Colin McRae Rally 2005 would be preferable, with changeable weather and everything. The first DiRT was great, just focused enough. DiRT 2 was scattered everywhere, but the bits were all good. DiRT 3, who knows, but there's an IRC license going, if they're interested.
No word on the demo just yet, although it'll probably be a week or so before the game proper arrives. |

With 45 days left until release, there's a ton more info that has come out, mostly by way of the developer's twitter account and the recent "Gymkhana Uncovered" event at the Battersea Compound. VVV Gamer was there along with a bunch of other people from within the community and he got a ton of video.
Preview of this weeks upcoming videos: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OWlX...layer_embedded Gameplay of a Kenyan Rally Stage: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PhKGW...layer_embedded Variety of different Clips: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=S_FQI...layer_embedded Those on the Codemasters forums have been keeping an extremely detailed car list and feature list for those who are interested, and considering the amount of 60's, 70's, 80's, Group B, Group A, and WRC era rally cars are in the game why wouldn't you be? Car List (WIP but almost complete): http://community.codemasters.com/for...rmed-cars.html Features/Info List (also almost complete): http://community.codemasters.com/for...ry-so-far.html |

I'm hoping it's going to be a bit of a mix of Dirt and Dirt2 - I prefer the rallycross from Dirt (real tracks beat fictional urban toss any day) but I like the hillclimb and rally stuff from Dirt2 more than Dirt. The Baja stuff in both can really just knack off, don't enjoy that at all.

The box art for this game is just awful. Looks like a budget release.
The game itself will be superb I reckon though. |

Has anyone got a link to a full car list for this? I've noticed that the Group B cars are back (RS200, 6R4, S4, Quattro, T16). Looking at some of the dev videos the rallying looks good - just hope the handling is up to scratch. I really haven't been paying much attention to this lately (been playing Dirt and Dirt 2 though ). Hope the rallycross is back to using real tracks rather than the fictional toss from Dirt 2.

The handling looks better than Dirt 2. Looks more weighty.

The handling in Dirt2 was better than Dirt (at least in the rally stages - but the co-driver is too slow on the calls ). I much preferred the Rallycross in Dirt though (although I loved the 6R4 and RS200 in Dirt2). The Baja buggy and truck events are no fun in either game. Hillclimb (sorry - Trailblazer) is better in Dirt2 but Pikes Peak is awesome in Dirt. If Dirt3 cherry picks the good bits from the first two and improves the rallying then I'll be more than happy.

Plenty of footage. Dirt 2 required you to throw the car in and slide round it, this makes you consider your turn in point and speed a lot more carefully. ISR are saying it handles better than GT5's rallying. |

Only tried a single Finland stage with the Focus WRC and 6R4, I'd say it's better than both GT5 and Shift 2, not that you shouldn't own all these titles.
The physics remind me of RBR, not as hardcore, but it feels like rallying without needing a wheel to get the most out of it. |
