F1 Commission propose new points system, give SWG mandate for 2010 rule tweaks

http://www.autosport.com/news/report.php/id/80521

This system being 25-20-15-10-8-6-5-3-2-1.

Surely going 8-6-5-3-2-1 makes no mathematical sense? Surely ...-8-6-4-3-2-1 would be more logical, as the gaps should go down as they go further down.

It sounds like a horribly complex system compared to 10-8-6-5-4-3-2-1, and seems completely unnecessary to be honest.

The same FIA press release also wants the Sporting Working Group (now to be headed by Christian Horner) to propose sporting rule changes. Surely there won't be that much of a need for changes.

it is due to the new teams that is entering F1 and a five point gap for winner & 2nd (i think a few people wanted a bigger gap bewteen winner and 2nd)

It's effectively a two point gap though. 10-8-6-4-1.6-2 ...

Oooh! How very MotoGP!

I like the points system as it is but... having said that there is some appeal in this one. I mean the bonus for fighting for a place higher if you're in the top two or three is large enough I think to stop people settling for points so much, without having the stupid 'Winner takes all' medals.

From a sporting POV, he should first start by trying to make F1 into a sport.

As for the scoring system. Surely any dominant team/driver is going to walk away with it?

It would be interesting to see how this season would have shaped up using that system.
