Why is there a spring ?

Thought I'd make it easier for people to see what you are asking?

There the fly by wire system for the throtle pedal but I was wondering about this spring. Could it be use for both pedals or just for one only ?

Couldnt it be a shockabsorber? I suppose pedals get a beating on a bumpy track, therefor the driver's feet as well.

Although the accelarator is "fly by wire" i think that the spring is for throttle travel, some drivers like a long pedal, others like a short pedal.

also it gives the driver a 'feel' as to the throttle position
