Wheldon to NASCAR?
Dan Wheldon to possibly drive for Ganassi's NASCAR team? That's one I haven't heard before...

Ganassi's NASCAR stable is struggling at the moment, but I doubt that Wheldon is the cure to what ails them, nor do I think that Dan is being seriously considered for one of their seats.

Wheldon's inteerst could arise about a whole season, this year he could appreciate just a couple of apprentice presences.
But certainly his current main concern is defending hid IRL title. |

Well, that makes me feel better. When I first heard the rumor, I was skeptical - at this point in his career, Wheldon belongs in an open-wheel car.

Well in that USA Today article Ganassi pretty much said open wheel drivers are a bunch of nancy boys and can't hack NASCAR.

and Nancy boys who cant hack open wheelers................... start their own team
I'd prefer dan to stay in Openwheelers , doesnt mean he wouldnt be any good in nascar , just that I would prefer to watch him in them |

I wonder if Chip ever had delusions of being any thing other than a nancy boy driver. Ironic that his NASCAR team has never accomplished anything close to the open wheel and sports car teams have.

I'm quite sure he'd make more money driving for Ganassi in NASCAR than he'd make driving for a low/middle-class team in Formula 1 that may lead to a better ride later on. |

I think the lure of a potential F1 drive at some point in the future would be enough to keep him out of NASCAR. I feel if he did move to NASCAR, potential F1 teams would over look him as NASCAR is a bit out of sight in terms of talent spotting for F1.

Isn't the whole of North America a bit out of sight when it comes to talent spotting in F1? Presumably why Graham Rahal is testing GP2s. If Bourdais can't get a half decent drive in F1 then no way Wheldon will. The problem of course is the same as the one Bourdais has - what else does he have to prove? You'd almost say he might as well go and do NASCAR and enjoy himself while earning a lot of money.

For anyone who hasn't yet caught up with the news (since this is an IRL forum and the story technically has nothing to do with the IRL so you might have missed it!), Ganassi has signed Juan Pablo Montoya to do Busch and Nextel Cup from next season and it sounds like a multi-year deal too.
