historic sports 2000
these cars seem to be excellant value to buy and presumably cheap to run yet from what I can make out there is not enough interest to run the historic sports 2000 cars as a seperate race. Can someone tell me what I have clearly missed? If it was run as a seperate class would it sit comfortable in historic meetings?

I think 'historic' Sports 2000 has much to offer. The cars are affordable, great to drive, and easy to run. I think they have a place at historic meetings, although some diehards may disagree.

We want to establish historic sports 2000 in addition to our "Histo Cup" (www.histo-cup.at) as well. We just bought some cars from Mr. Alan Hudd, bautiful cars for less money and easy to maintain. I know, some of us will sell their BMW´s 2002 and BDA Escorts, when they recognize, that you can have the same performance and more fun for just a part of the money. Greetings from Vienna, George.

George,
I'm the very happy owner of a 1979 T492. I'm just sorting out my schedule for 2012 which looks like the UK SRCC 1 hour races + other selected UK events + Spa Summer Classic + other raids into Europe so hopefully I can join in one or two of your events especially where they are run alongside the HRA events. Re perfomance of these early cars, I'm hardly an expert peddler but when we ran the S2's as part of the Britcar weekend this year on the new Silverstone GP circuit (hardly the best circuit for a transit engined car) my qualy time would have put me 4th on the grid of the Porsche Club UK race on the same day with only 997GT3's being quicker. Another example at Spa in 2010 in the 100mile race I ran consistantly ahead of the Porkers until a slow pitstop dropped me back but still finished in the top ten out of nearly 40 cars. Hows that in terms of bang for buck!!!. Regards Kevin Last edited by Kevin Cooke; 4 Jan 2012 at 14:02. |

Simon,
I used to have a 1978 Tiga 2000. (Incidentally the poster "Delta" sells all the body parts for these cars). They are absolutely brilliant fun and they are very forgiving in the handling department. Really nice people in the club as well, which is always a bonus. |

I have always thought that it would be nice to see a series where these sorts of cars could be raced alongside/ against things like the Clubmans cars (Mallocks etc) in an endurance or semi endurance format. A sort of "Thundersports Light" for the club level racer.
