I think you're misinterpreting the statements made. I believe the spokesperson is implying that the Grand Prix of Arizona will make the complete century-old history of motor racing irrelevant.

No, they just don't have a clue what they're talking about.....and the USAC, CART and IRL cars, plus many of the classes of the Copper World Classic, ran methanol at PIR for 35-plus years in Phoenix.
