FR Mygale setup
I have an opportunity to buy a
97 Mygale Formula Renault 2L 8V for Formula Libre racing in Ireland The first part of the deal will be a test drive at a Kart track based Sprint. The "knowledge" with the car is a little lacking. Can anyone help firstly with buying advice. Weak points, what should be there? etc. And before I do the sprint has anyone got a starting point set up for the car. Camber toe tyre pressures ride height etc. The car has been sitting for about 2 years The car is likely to be running on (borrowed)Avon hillclimb radials. If I do get around to buy what is the spares situation? Any bits of information would be much appreciated Gerard |

Did you email www.formulalibreireland.com with your question? One of the drivers in Libre has such a car albeit with a turbo Vauxhall engine. Somebody on this site might be able to give you some pointers?

I've never owned a mygale but we've had plenty of formula renaults.
The weak point on these cars is the clutch plate, depending on how you drive they will last anywhere between a couple of meetings & half a season. A plate is only £50 so it would be sensible to fit a new one before you start & if the car has been stood for that long i would be temted to fit new clutch seals while you are in there. A common trick is to select reverse instead of second gear, check bottom left handside of gearbox for signs of destortion, bulging. Setup wise start off with back wheels parrallel & about 5-6mm tow out at the front, no droop at the front & about 10-15mm droop at the rear. Ride height will depend on your rule's, car will have been designed to run at about 10mm front, 25mm rear. Camber will depend on tyres, if you are using radials, go for about 4-5 degrees good luck |
