Briatore to leave Renault?
Planet F1 is running an interesting story. It states the Trulli has yet to resign with Renault (probably not a big secret), and that he may end up at Toyota next year if he isn't at Renault (again, probably not a huge suprise...). The article then goes on to say that Briatore may end up at Toyota in '06 after his contract with Renault is finished. Hmmm... it didn't give any reasons for Briatore to move, and I don't know why he would unless there were a lot of $$$ involved...

I reckon Briatore would do anything if the moolah was right - he's that kind of dude.

Briatore will go where the money is. I hope Trulli stays at Renault.

Every decision that Briatore has made has been about the money involved so If Toyota can come up with the right offer i wouldn't rule out the possibility of Briatore switching camps.

Briatore is not a Renault employee; he leads a company who's been working with Renault for years, amanging most of their motorsport businesses.
Should Renault withdraw from them, Briatore would have to move out, but he wouldn't do it voluntarily, I reckon. |

I remember Briatore saying when he came back to benetton(renault) that he would quit in 05 regardless. That was years ago, so if he does leave I guess no surprise.

Doesn't Briatore run Supertec for Mecachrome?
Something like that. It's a Prodrive/Richards/BAR scenario methinks. |

A Renault to Toyota exodus - interesting!
So, are Renault really looking to exit F1? |

For a japanese company like Toyota, hiring a free rider like Flav with no real motorsport pedigree, would sound as a bit humiliating IMO.
Unlikely they will. |

A little unfair to say Flav has no real motorsport experience. Great tan and sunglasses and allways with immaculate arm jewelery.

I'd love to have a supermodel as arm jewelery too...
Damn that lucky Flav... |

Plus he currently owns the rights to the future WDC - that's worth a bit to some team.

Jarno or Fernando? Apparently Flav's contract is up next year, I believe that is what they said on Speed. Perhaps Renault feel he's been in a position to feather his own nest too fully, due to his position in the team. He has a lot of options available to him, particularly since he has made boatloads of money in the last few years. Perhaps he could sink some coin into a team like Minardi. |

I dont think you have to have a technical background to be a good F1 team boss/manager. Look at Ron and Jean Todt...Yes, both have motorsport backgrounds, but none have what you would call great technical knowledge of F1 cars. In other words, none of these guys could provide valuable input into the design phase of an F1 car.
The talent these guys have is being able to bring the right people together. This doesn't necessarily mean going out and buying the 100 best individuals, but rather finding the individuals who would work best as a team. My point is best put through an analogy. If you had $200 million dollars to invest into F1 over the next 5 years, who would you put in charge of your F1 team? I'd definately chose Flav over Patrick Head, Eddie Jordan, Gasgoyne etc. He may be a flamboyant extrovert, but he sure knows how to put together an F1 team. In fact, other than Ron and Jean, he's probably the next best in F1 when deciding on the optimum allocation of resources. Love him or hate him, Flav will always be a wanted resource in F1 circles. |

Managing F1 isn't about knowing the technical ins and outs - it's about people skills, and like KB says these are applicable to anyone.
Max Mosely has done a great job of running the FIA - one of the great Prime Ministers we never had in my opinion. What did his daddy do again? |

Hi everybody!
I'm a new user of this forum, I'm looking forward to having a good time here. Hopefully I won't make too many mistakes (English isn't my mother-tongue). To the topic: If I were Briatore, I would work for Toyota! And if Trulli is clever, he will move there too. Gascogne works for Toyota, for the richest team in the formula one, and we can expect that he'll develope it like he did Renault. I don't think Toyota is going to be world-champion next year but it has a better future than Renault because of its financial situation. |
