NASCAR Cup Round 22: The Glen - Finger Lakes 355
90 laps at the Glen which is 355 kilometers.
JAYSKI The Entry List Even though the guy has stockcar experience and I believe has even been a fist fight at the end of a short track race, Pat Long is a ringer; I don't care what you say Honestly, looking forward to see how he gets around in a Cup car and how he plays with the Cup guys. 43 entrants, which means everyone is guaranteed a start. |

Kind of surprised Robby Gordon isn't doing the Glen this year.

Robby has been ordinary of late on the road courses. Kurt Busch is looking very fast in practice...

Back to back poles for Montoya - Ambrose to start P5... Should be a cracking race, they really should get rid of some of the boring ovals & put more road courses in!

No Sponsor? No Problem, massive crowd at Watkins Glen today.
I imagine this will be Circuit of the Americas in 10-15 years when F1 inevitably fails in the U.S. again and they need a usage for those top-notch facilities. |

HOLY CRAP, what a finish!
Congrats to Marcos Ambrose on his second Sprint Cup Series victory! Brad Keselowski finished second after an incredible last-lap duel with Ambrose and was super-classy in his post-race interview. Fantastic finish |

"Wow, how dare we perfect 43 best drivers in the world have to race on a slippery surface."
Glad to see Ambrose and Keselowski contradicted the usual Wambulance in their interviews. If Brian France does indeed want more 'Wow' moments it's simple, add more road courses and have less races at generic 1.5/2 mile ovals. Would love to see a Cup race at Road America or Montreal. |

A fantastic race finish, great driving from Marcos, Brad and Kyle all day, I think even if they don't want to add road courses just replace Sonoma or change the layout it doesn't provide anywhere near the same excitement as Watkins glen.

That was about the best finish to any race I have ever seen. To top it off Kyle and Jeff Gordon ended up facing the wrong way! The Glen is SO much better than Sonoma...
Great stuff, and good for Taz, the King and #9 team. |

90,000 people attended the Cup race today, Watkins Glen proves there is life for tracks after they lose F1. I'd love to see what a Cup race at Road America could draw

It was a good interview from Brad who clearly enjoys the cut and thrust. My opinion of him has improved. The Labonte oil slick certainly put the cat among the pigeons. A real hair-raising win from Ambrose.

The oil made the finish much like a V8SC race ending in a shower.

Part of me wants nascar to oil down every track with 4 to go, especially with Kyle leading and the other part of me is wondering how much oil could be seen and what was reported to nascar and when. I assume it was SCCA marshalls, who normally spot oil pretty quickly. I don't recall seeing any oil flags (does nascar even know what that is?). Jeff Gordon was whining, but JJ was smiling while saying it was crazy. Same for Bowyer, who said it was some of the most fun he's had in racecar. Obviously, Kyle and crew didn't like while Ambrose and Keso were all smiles about sliding around in the oil, but just curious as to why they let things go when they normally throw a full course yellow for an errant horrific wrapper. Do you think they didn't know about it or do you think they knew and ignored it for show/finish?
I was highly entertained nonetheless. |
