Thundersports should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
1982 British F1 championship

Looking for information on the above as there seems a lot on the net on Aurora but nothing for 1982 championship. Anyone got entry lists, results or photos? Seem to remeber a guy called Arnold Glass lapping Oulton Park in a Mclaren M29 slower than the formula fords!

This was about the worst championship in motor racing history? just 4 0r 5 cars started the 5 rounds held.

All the results are on ORC but the F1 section is only navigable by car at present. So Arnold Glass's McLaren is here for example.

I regret that you're right, as ever, Rob.

From memory Webbie announced it late in 1981, right in the midst of the recession the UK was going thru' at that point. He'd touted a 'reborn' Atlantic series as the main single seater series for Britain in 81, but that didn't really produce did it? He always liked to have a "big" series to promote at his tracks and elsewhere, and hoped to go back to the success of Aurora in 78-79. Didn't work out though did it!!

I wonder why he went back to F1, and assume he must have sounded out potential entrants/teams/drivers before he announced it. Anyone know any more on this?

The year after of course he re-discovered his magic touch, when he announced Thundersports in late 82 for the 83 season. By then the economy was improving, Group C was on an up, and his timing was just right.

Arnold Glass was a legend in his own lunchtime. At a wet Oulton I think he was lapped (by I think Jim Crawford) on about the 3rd or 4th lap!
