Jaques out?
Autocar magazine have announced this week that Jaques is almost certainly not with BAR next year because he's too expensive. They state that Dave Richards will not comment (which isn't the same as denying it).
IF this is true (has it been reported anywhere else?) presumably Sato will take to car no. 2 next year but with Ralf looking good to stay at William's what competitive option's does that leave Jaques with? |

Hmm, it's no surprise. I honestly can't see any other home for Jacques. McLaren, I doubt, DC is part of the furniture there, Ferrari and Williams are solid and Renault have plenty of young stars on hand to replace Trulli IF he goes.

As for what options? McLaren, are you serious? There is Minardi if he's willing to pay what he used to earn, and retirement. Thats it. |

IMHO he will be off to another series, and no F1 in 2004 at least.

Paul, they do say in the article that he would be too expensive at any price.
I can't see Ron Dennis employing Jaques at McLaren because his image goes against the grain. I don't think Jaguar will pay for a "superstar" driver, I'm pretty sure Jaques wouldn't want to drive for Sauber, Jordon or Minardi. That leaves Renault or Toyota. |

Jacques has not much choice. Ferrari and Williams are safe. McLaren will never hire Villeneuve and Briatore said that Trulli was safe. The other teams are not better/richer that BAR so he better can stay where he is now.

I think jacques should talk to toyota since theyre allergic to keeping the same drivers every year. Theyve been doing bad i guess but its better then minardi for sure and toyota are bound to improve.

I will be very happy to see him leave BAR.
One day BAR will be a good team but not in JV's time. I'm Sick of watching and waiting for something to go wrong !!! If he leaves, were he'll go ??????? I thought Williams but Ralf is doing ok. Renault to replace Jarno. Toyota ? Mclaren, don't think so. Ferrari ? Love to see JV & MS go at it. That would be great for F1 Who knows what goes behind closed doors. |

This was the rumour our local motorsport channel was pondering last week.

Jag, Toyota or PK Racing.
But i hope Williams. I heard something about Jacques saying to Bernie that he would drive for free if he get's the chance to race for Ferrari. Last edited by ASCII Man; 10 Jul 2003 at 21:07. |

I hope he finds something, it'd be a shame to lose Jacques from the field.

Where did these rumours (either positive or negative) towards Villeneuve and Toyota come about? It is an interesting one. All depends what Toyota are looking for. From a marketing point of view, I'd have thought that Da Matta has a bit of overlap with Villeneuve (both names in America), although presumably Jacques is bigger. Who would it be instead? Panis or Da Matta. Last I heard was off Autosport saying that Toyota would probably stick with these two. Quote:

Toyota or Jaguar or Sauber. Other than that he's screwed.

I won't be at all surprised if Jacques isn't on the grid in 2004. He's simply lost interest and the money just isn't worth trundling around mid-grid. He's already been doing it for 4-odd years now.
He'll either have a swansong season or two in CART or simply retire. |

He has also expressed an interest in driving at Le Mans.
I'm sure JV and PT could co-exist in CART...they seemed to be fine the first time 'round. |

Well Pollock has already said numerous times that JV WILL be in F1 next year despite what you all think.
JV has been doing a lot of PR work in France lately and his picture is plastered all over Paris and other parts of the country as he is now Tag Heuer's new sunglasses guy. There was a lot of talk about JV at the French GP as the fans there really like him. Also when Briatore was asked about Villeneuve he didn't say no he said that he thought it was not right to discuss other drivers when he has two drivers racing for him at the moment. But everybody knows Trulli is on the block. Briatore has been notorious for trying to sign Villeneuve before and he can get him at a deal now. To me it will be BAR for JV next year but if it is anywhere else it will be Renault. |

Doesn't it seem sad that drivers like Fisichella, Coultard, Barrichello, and Ralf all have secure seats in F1, despite having had race winning cars for many more seasons than Jacques, yet failing to chalk up as many wins as he (let alone a WDC) that it is Jacques who doesn't have a drive in F1??? Sad indeed. |
