Just to fan the flames a little, Ferrari will apparently be paying for Luca Badoer to test drive the third Sauber during Friday practice.

Yep, seen this story before and from a Ferrari/Bridgestone point of view it makes perfect sense. Look at the tyre/team line up....
Michelin Renault William's McLaren BAR Honda Jaguar Toyota Bridgestone Ferrari Sauber Jordan Minardi Michelin have over 50% of the field to glean tyre data from on a Friday, importantly all of whom are factory teams. No dis-respect intended but Minardi and Jordan are probably going to be 2 seconds or so off the ultimate pace, so their tyre data will not be as meaningfull. |

Badoer to be Sauber Friday test driver?
I've created this new thread from a post in the Sauber thread. It has been rumoured in several places that Ferrari may fund Badoer's drive in Friday testing in a 3rd Sauber, so that they can collect as much tyre data as possible.

But Badoer has certainly more than 6 Grand Prix starts (even though he never scored a point).

The relationship between Sauber and Ferrari is getting stronger, next season we'll see Michael and Rubens testing the Saubers whilst Fisi and Massa are circulating in the red cars

This can only be good for Sauber and you have to think BS have alot to do with it. I think with the defection of BAR, BS are a little bit nervious.
They may have Ferrari, but lets face it, thats all they have. If MS & co depart the red cars, BS are in serious trouble. Helping Sauber get up on the lower Michelin teams will win the some credibilty back, and hopefully, another team. |

I think many people expected this latest developement, so it doesn't come as a surprise. Ferrari obviously is aware of the Michelin threat and is doing anything it can to stop it.
If we were to compare the "ability to test" of the different tyre manufacturers, it would be 6 to 1 in favour of Michelin. Frankly, Sauber can't help much in tyre testings besides on Fri-prac. Ferrari needs this data only because of the new rule which makes team choose a compound for the weekend after a short practice session. Unlike Michelin, they don't have the luxury of testing all compounds in that short time. Hopefully,it's true that Badoer would test the 3rd Sauber. |

How long until Sauber shift there premises over to Italy
It won't hurt Sauber, but how much help would Badoer really be? |

Plenty...more than any other test/young driver can provide.
Badoer is a pretty good tester, and he had plenty of experience with the various Bridgestone compounds as well as knowledge of the F2003 GA, on which the C23 is "based". Furthermore, Sauber doesn't have much capacity for tyre testings, hence, with the new tyre regulation for the weekend, Sauber needs to rely more from Ferrari's vast database than on their own, hence, to have a Ferrari test driver inside would be a good move. |

Badoer makes great sense for both Ferrari and Sauber. He's a talented driver who never got the chances he deserved - he must find it especially galling that Barrichello, who he raced against at the F3000 sharp end - is getting the benefit of his hard work.
His testing skill is among the very best, so he can help Sauber with setups at each race, especially as he knows the nucleus of the car, and it will give Bridgestone much mroe testing data - Michelin's advantage of haaving so many teams in the testing will be clearest t the new tracks, and may negate some of Bridgestone's legendary wet-weather prowess. |

..And he nearly nailed a fourth at that wild European GP that Herbert finally won for Stewart.
Badoer is clearly the best choice for all concerned. it will be interesting to compare times across the board, baddoer relative to Schumacher and Barrichello and Badoer to Massa and Fisichella. Badoer is consistently right up there with TGF, it gives Ferrari one more measuring stick for future prospects. as well as being a useful addition to the tire testing stafff for Bridgestone. |

Of course if Badoer is doing testing for Sauber he'll be that team's best driver.
Maybe he'll get a race seat with them at some point. Lets hope so. |

DC won't go to Ferrari as a test driver if he gets a race seat elsewhere - and I'm sure he'll find one.
