Nothing will be a good enough replacement for 3 V8 Supercar races though, will it.

Motorbike with an attached "Buggy" or "Side-car" on the side of it which has a wheel.
So there is a rider on a bike and a other "dude" (Don't know technical name) that swings aruond behind him to change the ballance. Used to be apart of the WSBK circus but aparently not anymore. look like this http://www.belchamber.org |

yes ..
Love to see world class sidecars in Australia & on the Albert Park F1 meeting or the Philip Island MotoGP meeting.
My choice for an Aus venue sidecars thru the Dipper at Mt Panorama at Bathurst ... Is safety an issue at Albert Park? |

I find it hard to envisage sidecars round Melbourne! Should be pretty hairy!

Interesting support category for this year F1GP
Looks like this years Grand Prix meeting will be a 3+4 event according to a small report in Motorsport News and semi confirmed here http://www.superside.com/calendar.html the first round of the 2007 FIM Side Car Chamionship is to also be held at Albert Park
The MN report suggests an FIM track inspection will be required and separate set of official (in other words those at the top in Race Control not the foot soldiers trackside) but I can see an issue with is which will need to be looked at, Air Fences. Air Fences are used to protect riders (or passengers) in the event there is a wall too close to the track now Albert Park has a few walls which could be an issue. The problem is air fence & cars don't mix in that a race car hitting an air fence will damage or destroy it so the air fence modules will need to be put in place for the side cars and then shifted once they finish. Now we move the corner apex tyre bundles whenever open wheelers are on track now but the air fences will be a different kettle of fish altogether to move. Don't take the above comments as a negative as I'm quite looking forward to seeing the counter weights do their thing at the "Muddle at the Puddle" this year I just hope those in charge work through the logistics of it all. The promotor of the Australian Superbike Series, Terry O'Neil, should be expecting a call from the Grand Prix Corp any day now looking to hire the Yamaha Air Fence he uses during his series and also places like Winton which also owns it's own air fence for bike events. Bring it on I say. |

Yeah, bring it on....We've missed the mayhem since NASCARs stopped supporting the event.
Will we see an upsurge in leather clad flagmarshals that want to get involved in The Great Muddle? Lets hope they can make it to sign on every morning and last the day instead of turning up for 20 minutes work each day during the tricycle events. This could be fun..... |
