GPL mods

just how do you install the GPL mods?
it is hard enough for me to figure out the Folder structure, (good Papy made it so simple for N2K3)
i have been considering the 65 mod and the new Thunder cars beta, but just how do you do it and what is this Gem+2?
if it wasn't for car set manager i would never have had the updated cars either
yeesh..

GEM+2 is what comes with the 65 Mod.
If you downloaded the '65 Mod, you should have a file called GPLS_1_1_full.exe
Double click on that an it will extract a shed load of files, and install GEM+2 and iGOR.

Once that's done, all you do is start GEM+2 and then from the drop down menu on the top left of the screen, select 'Grand Prix 1965' and then start GPL using the button in the bottom right. It will then do all the necessary patching and fire up GPL.

Thunder Cars I'm about to install myself now, so I'll let you know afterwards how its done!

I don't get it why they made a fantasy mod....

I mean, what's wrong with a 1970 or 1971 or 1972 season mod?

Anyway, the thunder thing is quite good fun still, don't like the sounds very much tho.

Where's the thunder thing, I can't find it
65 mod is the only mod with alternitive physics is it not, therefore rendering 69-72 a bit useless

Why useless? Alternative physics have been made for the 65 mod, meaning, it can be done!

Pointless probably being a better word, and because visual things don't really do it for me, it's about the physics involved :P

Thunder Cars has separate physics too.

I was tremendously disappointed, I wouldn't bother...

Sorry I didn't get back on how to install it, our broadband box broke, and we've had to wait for BT to fix it.
I'll work it out from a backwards uninstall I think.
What I can't get over is the fact these cars are 46Mb in size each; the highest quality GPLEA cars look way better and are only 20...

Well, you might like it. Go ahead and try by all means.

I don't like them because they have slicks and wings, and yet are slower in the corners than the '67s.
Their advantage is they accelerate very quickly, and hit 240mph at Spa...

THe cars are not 46mb each. All the cars, layout, sound and GEM+2 pictures are zipped into a 42mb file. while the latest version of GEM+2 + other physics files are zipped into a 7mb file.

LOL.

Still, 45.6Mb is very excessive IMO.
I don't know if anyone else picked up on that, but surely there must be some way of reducing that by at least 20Mb....

Possibly, but its the relative size of them...

Looking inside the dat its because all the mips for each car are packed in the same dat, which is then put in each car folder. You could make a different dat for each car, (STP, Players, Valavoline, etc ) using only the mips that car requires, plus downsizing them all to 256x256 instead of 512x512 and that would probably bring it down to about where they should be.
