I'm sure they'd have more exciting things to do than to watch a Grand Prix, either live or on the box...

An aquaintance, who's wife is a colleague of mine, is a former Indy/CART racer who lives in Indianapolis.
He has no interest in fighting the crowds, but will watch on TV. He is, however, attending some of the parties! He also said that some of the F1 drivers were invited to try out an unnamed CART team's cars at another oval track in the area. That would be fun to watch. |

I know Gil has gone back to Brazil. Maybe he will watch it from there, but I bet he won't.
There's testing at Fontana this week and I expect Helio will be there working. Dario has said he would rather play ping pong. Otherwise I really don't know. |

Didn't Dario say that he would rather play ping pong than race in the Indy 500?
I am sure he will watch the race. DC and JV are supposed to friends of his. |

Good morning, I am sure that there will be lot's of interest in the race from indy car drivers...Given the chance I think most would like to drive in F1..I hope Dario is better at ping pong, than testing F1 cars.. |

Ping Pong?
Is that Dario's pet name for Ashley Judd? |

So NeilC if ur friend is right abt the F1drivers on another track, what might be the intention?...for pleasure or a future drive in CART?? And y did Dario say that Liz?... does he mean F1 is chicken stuff compared to Indy?...is that the general attitude CART drivers have?? |

There's even likely to be interest in NASCAR. One of the drivers (Jeremy Mayfield, I think) is said to be such an avid F1 fan he asks his crew for updates while he's racing!
And I won't forget the day Senna was killed. That same day Dale Earnhart won a race. Upon emerging from his car, the first thing he did was offer condolences to Senna's family. |

The context for Dario's remark (and Jay's right, he was talking about racing in the Indy 500) was that a reporter asked Team Kool Green if they dreamed about racing in the Indy 500. Paul said diplomatically that he thought most CART pilots dreamed of racing in F1, not the Idiot Racing League; Dario said bluntly, "I'd rather play ping pong."
They were the only ones who were asked. I imagine lots of CART pilots will be there or watching, if they can. |

During today's practice, Helio Castro-Neves was interviewed from the pit lane on Speedvision.
It was a pretty PR friendly interview with a a very cautious subject, but for what its worth, he was there. |

Some will watch, for sure.
It will be impossible for the CART drivers to ignore the F1GP at Indy. Some will not like it when they see a display of ability when the F1 cars take on teh oval track flat out s well as drive with precision around the infield, but tehy will want to know how it will be done. Those that don't are probably the less capable ones, while the F1 wannabees will definitely be watching, if not for anything else, then at least to see whether they can cope with this challenge.
