Pics of Magny-Cours track modifications?
Does anyone have any detailed pics of the new track layout at Magny-Cours for this year?

I don't. But I've seen it today on the LG Super Racing Weekend coverage. It's quite different.
If you've got access to British Eurosport, have a look tomorrow when they show the FIA GT race. Last edited by Spudgun; 26 Apr 2003 at 23:47. |

Maybe a new passing spot even?

So... One stupid chicane exchanged for another stupid chicane?
Brilliant. |

The new chicane at Licée is absolutely unnecessary, as it is preceded by a low-speed corner (the new right-hander has a very tight radius).
It reminds me of the chicane-like "S" that was located at the exit of the Adelaide Turn when the French GP was raced in Magny-Cours for the first time, in 1991. Its stupidity was so universally recognized that it constitited a (sadly) rare case of a chicane removal in recent Formula 1 history. From 1992 onwards the "S" after Adelaide Turn was gone, thank you. Hopefully the same will happen with this new one at Licée. Last edited by Muzza; 27 Apr 2003 at 01:44. |

What the hell is the point of a chicane at a place were the cars are only doing 50km/h anyway....grrr
Still, it's better than what's there at the moment. |

Saw the new track today on Eurosport watching the FIA GT. They have altered the track after the "Imola" chicane, to make that corner a tight hairpin, it may provide a half-chance overtaking manoover, but the following section is a good place to overtake, a long curving straight into a tight corner - could do with being a bit wider though!

From the looks of it, it appears the modifications will help the racing. I wish that they could do away with, or at least straiten the Imola chicane.

The new chicane that leads onto the start/finish straight is a bit like the chicane at Croft - famous for it's tyre barriers and several touring car drivers spinning coming out of it - I think it's turn 3/4 on the Croft track.

D'yknow what?? I LIKE it!! Two good passing places and a chicane that will bunch the pack up a bit whilst getting the power down, giving a decent chace into Grand Courbe. It's not *that* bad.

The track remains very boring, even with that new chicane. Why don't they use the surrounding configuration (going straight at the adelaïde hairpin so that kinda "modified oval" can be created)?
Anyway, it would be better to move the GP to another track (Charade, Le Mans, Paul Ricard, ...) |

Magny-Cours has been **** from the start. Apart from the Adelaide hairpin which I suppose has provided an overtaking opportunity and some interesting incidents over the years.

What about Dijon Prenois?
Am i perhaps the only one who likes that track? It's a bit short but it's got a nice flow in it. |

I think Paul Ricard could be a better place. Not Le Mans, that Bugatti circuit is absolutely stupid. 24h track is too long for Bernie.

With the exceptions of Paul Ricard, and maybe the Le Mans Bugatti, there are no other tracks that I can think of that will meet F1 standards for hosting a grand prix. Rouen and Reims are public roads with virtually no resemblense of their former glory other then some decaying stands. One track that I would love to see F1 race at would be the Pau street circuit! Will never happen, but one can dream....

Gotta back up bcobbus. LeMans Bugatti and Paul Richard are the only ones even remotely up to F1 standards at the moment.
Dijon'd certainly be an improvement, but the facilities at the track are nowhere close to F1 standards. Reims, Rouen, Montlhery, Clermont-Ferrand, and the rest of the truly great French circuits are all out of the question in today's safety-centered F1. Magny Cours was garbage before F1 arrived, and it always will be. |

They must be kidding themselves if they think Chateau d'Eau is a passing corner. Sure, its much better than before, but i seriously doubt there will be any passing there if the Imola chicane remains, which it will.
I think the new chicane at Lycee is there so that the cars can have a pit entry a little slower. Anyway, the final chicane before was ****! overall, improvements. |

Course they caould always ditch it and go to Belgium. Er I think the Spa circuit might meet FIA standards.

Magny-Cours always has been and always will be a club racing circuit. Pathetic.
