R8C #10 Chassis number

Hello,

I have seen the Audi R8C number 10 in Neckarsulm.
That one has chassis number 102 (8RZAA 200 102). I suppose that the number 9 car has chassis number 101. I don’t know if they made more than two of the R8C’s but I don’t think so.

Unfortunately I don’t know the numbers of the R8R’s. I hope someone can tell us these numbers.

I also would like to know the numbers of the R8R 1999 Sebring cars and the numbers of the R8R prototype.

Does anybody know the R10 numbers and in what races they races?

Regards,
Martijn

The R10 that won Sebring was 101. It crashed in a test after Sebring and has been rebuilt as a show car. 101 has been replaced by 103. What are the numbers of this years R10’s? I heart that these were 104 and 105 or 105 and 106.

Did the Audi R8 Chassis 406 or 606 really exist?
406 should have raced at Mid Ohio and Laguna Seca in 2001 (# 38) but I think this is chassis 405.

Chassis 606 should have raced at Sebring 2004 (#88). But I think this was chassis 604.

If the R8R from Sebring were number 204 and 205, it seems logic that there also would have been a chassis 201, 202 and 203 to.

It is also possible that it was like this:

R8C 101
R8C 102
R8R 203 Test car (1e version)
R8R 204 Sebring 1999 (2e version)
R8R 205 Sebring 1999 (2e version)
R8R 306 Le Mans 1999 / ALMS 2000 (3e version)
R8R 307 Le Mans 1999 (3e version)
R8R 308 ALMS 2000 (3e version)

Until now no one knows that the 203 (or 103) exists.

They started in 1997 (1:4 Wooden model) with the development of the R8R. The first real R8R was ready in August 1998. And the R8C development started in September 1998?

It would be logic to say that the first R8R chassis numbers started with a 101. Because the R8C wasn’t built jet.

Than there still is a gap to the 204 car of 2 cars.
Are the silver/black and the all black R8 first version cars the same car?
And is the R8 2e version used for testing the same car as one of the Sebring cars?

If not, than the gap would be filled.

Is the R8C I have seen in Neckarsulm really the original number 10 car?
It has chassisnumber 102. So far I only found lists that say that number 9 was chassis 102 and number 10 was chassis 101.

Did they change the body like the 402 car that now has the 403 crocodile body?

Found this summary on Emanuele Pirro's website.

Haven't checked all the info against what's already been posted but notably it refers to the two 1999 Le Mans cars as 001/002 not 101/102

There were issues with the engine cowling ripping itself off at high speed, that's when they decided on the open cockpit.

The open cars also were allowed to run wider wheels and tires, and had a BOP advantage over the GTP cars until Audi Sport developed the '03 Bentley Speed 8, though it went up mostly against the semi-factory R8s.

It should also be noted that the 500 series cars were initially fitted with 2000 spec bodywork until the '01 LM test day.

Also, I'm curious about the shift points on the R8. Initially the started of with a shift pattern similar to the 2011-2013 R18s (aside from not using 1st gear), then they went to a quicker shift pattern in 2003. I asked about this in the technology thread, but it seems that's not a very well frequented area.

Road America 2002:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PFkQRqmxgZs&t=2869s

Same track in 2003:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AD1BoNqodak&t=4284s

Oddly, the Champion R8 it seems often ran the quicker shift pattern as early as Sebring in 2001. Only big change in the R8's life in the ALMS was a 10% smaller air restrictor that the ACO fitted to all cars after 2002. Was it team preference that dictated the shift patterns? IMO, that's a bit odd given how much Audi Sport micromanaged the privateer R8s.

Just found this at Midweek Motorsports' FB page, Mr. Le Mans behind the wheel of one of the models of car that made him Mr. Le Mans:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZK5u3aCwNgc

I don't know if this is 605 (last R8 to win an ALMS race) or one of the replicas built up from spare/unused tubs.

Another video at Racer Magazine's You Tube page has Brad Kettler confirm that the Laguna Seca Historics car was 605.

Also, there's at least two R8s built up from tubs that weren't raced in period that are running in vintage racing that Audi Sport doesn't officially acknowledge as being raced in period. Which is odd given that at least one R8 was built in 2000 and only used as a show car.

The two replica cars, or clones as they prefer to call them, are indeed R8-606 and R8-607. Understand why Audi Sport doesn't include them, as they weren't made by them ;-)

I know that this is about the R8, but I do have a question about the R10. I've seen a couple of videos (one from 2018 and the other from 2021) that Allan McNish said that he drove R10 #101 for most of 2007 and the #1 Audi in '08 was also #101 (McNish drove the #1 Audi at PLM that year). However, Racing Sports Cars says that the #1 Audi in both of those seasons was predominantly #103. I wonder who's actually correct here?
