Supercars 2024 Calendar

We're getting close to the time of year that the Calendar normally comes out.

One bit of good news is that New Zealand will be back on the calendar with this morning's announcements on Taupo doing a deal.

Great to have NZ back and Taupo looks like a good location, particularly with owner Tony Quinn and circuit manager Martin Collins really understanding Supercars & team needs, fan facilities needed etc.

TQ's commitment to motorsport and motorsport facilities gives us a lot to be thankful for really - his thoughts on Supercars at Taupo here.

Taupo tipped to be a boon for tourism.

Will be interesting to see how the 2024 calendar shakes out, will Singapore be on, will QR end up back in, more besides.

banksie should be qualifying in the top 10 on the grid
Newcastle sounds a long way from being confirmed, with mixed responses to the community survey, reported here.

Mr Howard made it sound like it was a done deal on one of Speedcafe’s 3907 podcasts with Mr Fogarty..

Mr Howard reckons that getting the 2024 calendar done and announced is "close" and should be announced before Bathurst.

Only 2 events to be confirmed - AGP support and Newcastle. He sounds pretty positive about Newcastle going ahead. Singapore not happening in 2024.

With no AFL footy this weekend the sport ( & 7) missed an opportunity to tap into fans whose teams (10 of ) have been knocked out of that codes substantial viewing audience.

The lack of Winton and QR is unacceptable. It suggests ATCC/Supercars organisers are greedy and care more about receiving sanctioning fees and not exceeding the minimum 12 rounds (after which they have to pay more TRC payouts?), then about bringing the racing to fans at traditional long-running circuits...

Hope so. The Taupo track does not have brilliant spectating places. They really need something like Townsville or QR with spectator banks. I imagine there will be A LOT of grandstands set up. Do a Google image search of A1GP Taupo and you’ll see what I mean.

Are you for real?

QR is a flat, boring shithole even with TQ's improvements.

Winton is a bit of a goat track that stayed on the calendar probably a lot longer than it had any right to.

I'd gladly have Sandown over both of these tracks, while we still have it.

Tracks like these is where ARG should take TCR, run cheaper events at tighter circuits.

QR is a great spectator track though, can see the whole track from almost everywhere. I went 3 years in a row and enjoying sitting on the T1 bank.
Winton has camping available, and is an interesting circuit.
These circuits will slowly get phased out…much like Lakeside, Calder etc. Better to race them than not.

Quinny was on record after he bought QR that it wasn’t ready for Supercars & he didn’t want to get them there too early, before he felt it was ready. Maybe that’s still the case?

Clearly there’s no issue between Quinny & Supercars as they are racing at one of his other circuits.

Winton may or may not be on the calendar, may or may not want to enter into a new agreement - time will tell.

Wasn't sure if this fitted best here or in the Sandown race thread but it seems that the question of Sandown's future is still up in the air, with possibility that it may stay in use for horse racing, which may mean for motor racing also.

If it stays available for motor racing, that's another spot on the calendar that you'd have to consider "locked down" year on year.

Agree - more a question of whether the club wants to pay the appearance fee I think.

Read somewhere that 2025 will see Sandown closed and turned into housing.
Melbourne Racing Club will use the proceeds to redevelop Caulfield.

Maybe not - that’s why I posted the article. Changes in the makeup of the club’s management could change that direction with a group committed to keep at least horse racing at Sandown.

With Winton missing from both of the National series calendars, it might be a case of they weren't offered the opportunity to pay for an event.

Be a while until we have the 2024 Calendar confirmed by the sound of it. As often happens, sorting out one of the events holds up the whole calendar.
