Jean Pierre Jabouille 1942- Feb 2nd 2023
Sad to report the death of Jean Pierre Jabouille, aged 80.
The winner of the first WDC GP for Renault at Dijon 1979.... the first championship Grand Prix victory for a forced-induction engine since Juan Manuel Fangio’s Spanish GP win at Pedralbes in a Supercharged Alfa Romeo 159 in1951. Dijon 1979 was however the first ever GP win for a turbo. Two GP wins, his only two podiums. 6 pole positions Suffered horribly from the "Yellow Teapot" unreliability. Surprisingly only started 49 GPs RIP |

That sucks. Four talented Frenchman we've lost in the past couple of months. First Tambay, then Streiff, then Ferte and now Jabouille
He certainly deserves credit for developing the Turbo and giving Renault their first win. It's unfortunate that his win was overshadowed by the legendaru battle for second between Rene and Gilles. Shame his career ended with those broken legs, but he went on to be a great engineer. Of course he was one time Laffite's brother in law RIP Jean-Pierre |
