Is a 1931 Alvis of interest?

Amazed to find this on my favourite Motor Salvage Website today......

Nice old thing. Always had a soft spot for Alvis. Think this should probably be in our Classic Car forum though and may move it there later.

Nice old bus, the 'light all round damage' looks restricted to both wings on one side, although the 'no oil, do not start' might suggest other damage out of sight. How does a car like that end up as salvage???

No Oil- wonder if car has had a light roll?

It does seem odd when classics finish up as salvage. Gilbert Gilbern was such an example, advertised for sale with damaged driver's door. The buyer (previous owner) just bought a new door from the owners club, had it painted and job was done....

If it did it must have done it without touching the ground and landed on its wheels! Can't see any other bodywork damage. Notice the bidding has picked up quite a bit overnight. The power of tenths?

Looking at the picture of the dash I suspect there may be electrical problems. The dash panel appears to have been tilted up (note the cutout for the steering column) & there's some very dodgy-looking wiring - as if that "chocolate block" connector wasn't bad enough, is that a Scotchlok I see to the right of it?

Still a lovely little car, though!

Up to £9.5k! After looking at the pics on a better screen, I reckon car has been on it's side. Wheel arch damage on right and screen missing, plus no oil in engine?

Finished at £20,630, plus premium (5%) and handling charges, so another £1k or so.

Looking at auction prices (In Classic and Sport Car mag) for similar age 12/50s that wouldn't seem particularly cheap, but I'm no expert on Alvis, and don't know the difference between 12/50 and 12/60.......

I would imagine the insurer who consigned this one to auction will be reasonably happy.......pity I wasn't on commission

Sad to see, but a nice opportunity for someone.

I suppose it could have been Grandfathers who passed away and the kids took it to the breakers
